Is It Possible To Put 4 Gig Ram In 1705?

I have a 9400/1705. The 1710 accepts 4GIG of RAM. I believe the 1505 has the same motherboard as the 1710 (please correct me if I am wrong) .I want to upgrade to 4GIG of RAM. Will the 9400/1705 accept 4GIG of RAM, and what, if anything do I need to do to the BIOS to effect the upgrade?

There is already an ongoing thread on this very subject.

Found a write up saying the 1705 will address 4 gig of memory...

That being said have YOU priced (2) 2 gig modules?... it's going to cost you as much (or more) than the laptop.

If you'd link me to the thread, I'd appreciate it. While the current price of 2 x 2GIG RAM is excessive, it will drop rapidly. If it will fit in my motherboard and I can perform the upgrade with no (or a simple) BIOS update, I will purchase the RAM.

Drop rapidly? It has only increased since May or so...

I don't expect it to drop until a few months from now, at the earliest....

I have 4GB and so far I haven't been that impressed. I believe that Vista will better utilize the RAM as SP2 has it capped to 3GB for security reasons. I would never pay the $3500+ it costs to upgrade. I purchased my laptop for $2170 on eBay (best deal ever).

It has nothing to do with security but, yes, XP will typically not be able to make good use of 4GB of RAM.

They said it is due to some sort of vulnerability.
