For Half life 2 i cannot tell you any performance. As for FEAR i suggest you do not exceed 1024 x 768 resolution so you can enable some eye candy (AA & AF)
Oblivion runs good also on 1024 x 640 (widescreen mode) with 2AA and 4AF with HDR on.

BTW use the Omega Drivers which can be found HERE
I myself am using these drivers and i am more than happy with them

Thanks scoutingwraith,

Reading my 5672 specs, i notice that my X1600 is 256mb with HyperMemory, is it good?
Considering i play Half Life 2 and counter strike and the highest settings with my x700 64mb, i suppose you should be able to play fine Half life 2.

X1600 256mb with hypermemory just means that when an aplication or game etc requires more than your dedicated 128mb, then the graphics card can "burrow" up to an additional 128mb from your system memory.

As far as i know, it doesnt really bring much of an increase in performance, if at all. Still its a nice marketing device to say "hey! you have a 256mb graphics card!"

anyways, you should be able to play anything right now on the market, even at high settings sometimes, just be careful with resolution as its probably what will affect your performance the most.

Thanks Ryzeki,

I made an mistake, my X1600 is 512 with hypermemory, just meansit's 256 dedicated, right?

So, i'm playing Battlefield 2 on the max settings!! It's perfect!!

My score on 3dMark05 is: 2660. I'm with a new instalation, but i notice my cpu was running on 990mhz, maybe because i didn't installed the Acer software yet.
If i score 3000 in 3dmark05, i'll be very happy =)

Thanks

On the ACER models the X1600 is only with 128mb memory. The rest of the memory is borrowed from the main ram.

So 2660 is the maximium score in 3DMark05 for the 5672?

Another question, my screen is too bright, and when i descrease the brightness is too dark. Is there a tool to config the display settings? I noticed when i move an window throug the screen, i can see shadows of the letters and of the window. Is it normal? I forgot to install any driver?

Thanks

I've been thinking about getting this laptop. Only thing is I want to beable to upgrade the cpu later to a core 2 duo for the 64-bit. Does Acer have a bios update yet like asus does for its skt M Z96J to allow the use of the core 2 duo?

Look for the BIOS update 3224 (or a later version)

Here is something from the readme

Intel Calistoga Chipset
;+------------------------------------------------------------------------
;
; Date : 4/18/'06
; ZB1 BIOS Ver. : v1.3224 (3B24)
; INTEL VGA BIOS : cal_1256.dat
; ATi M52 : br18861.bin
; ATi M54 : br18860.bin
; ATi M56 : br19743.bin
;
1. Update new M56 VBIOS.

2. Update to support Merom CPU.

all of the versions of this computer i see come with the 1.66 ghz processor, but i notice in your sig that you have the T2400 (1.83ghz) how did you manage that?
The CPU's in the 5672's are REALLY easy to upgrade. Take off the bottom panel (8 screws), take off the heatsink, and you are there.

It's a great laptop. Took me about 5 minutes to pop in the T7400. Purrs like a kitten!

Anyone looking to upgrade their 5672 to a Core 2 Duo can PM me for help or pricing on doing it for you. As mentioned before you do need BIOS 3224 or later. Most new 5672's are running 3228.

Cheers!

3224 will work fine. No need to upgrade the BIOS. It would be good to update it anyway as the support is probably more complete in the newer BIOS versions. Sucka has verified that 3224 is fine for Merom though.
