OK, so maybe not full conversion, but i figure i might have a little fun with my girl.
So, i have a 9300, and its in great working order; but, the case is a bit scratched, and i have never totally liked the white. So, i got to looking, and tracked down some spare parts to convert her. However, i hate the ultra shiny XPS rear, so i wanted something else.
I found a new XPS 170/Gen2 touchpad for $20, and the front (black) bezel for $25 (prolly a bit much, but eh...). The hard part, was tracking down the rear cover.
I really wanted the look of an M90, but it took forever to get the right part #s (they didn't seem to easy to track down). Either way, i finally found them, and called Spare Parts. I knew how to open ("Sorry, don't have my service tag with me.."), but they were hesitant all the way.
They wanted to know if it was personal or business, and if I was SURE it was an M90 i had. The CS Rep realy became hesitant when i told her what parts i wanted , and even asked who told me the numbers (laff! I asked her why she needed to know :P Finally, i got to order the parts. I tried to order:
CF202Assembly,Bezel,Liquid Crystal Display,Notebook,M90
FF054Assembly,Cover,Liquid Crystal Display,Notebook,M90
F8466LCD Hard Screw Cover(2) (RoHS)
F8468BUMPER, LCD, RUBBER, SMALL
Of course, it would figure that they are out of 8466 and 8468, so i will have to use the bumpers i have now - no big deal though.
So, in the end, i would like to think it will look exactly like the M90 - unoriginal, i know, but i will be one of the only 9300 with a converted one!
Just hoping they won't cancel it...
Anyway, will keep people updated on when i start getting parts. Good times!
