Trouble with DVD Drive

I just noticed today that my DVD drive will not show up while in Windows XP or Kubuntu. It is in the bios, will open up, shows the "busy" lights, and spins a cd up. Everything seems to work fine, however it just will not show up as being a device.
My 5760 is about 2-3 weeks old now and I pray that I will not have to send it back so any help will be greatly appreciated. I have witnessed the wonderful help you folks can give (especially in the Linux area) and pray that someone will be able to help me out.

Thank you in advance,
Rebkee

You might try to physicall remove the drive and then reinstall it. It may not be making "excellant" contact. The User manual should have instructions on how to do this action.

Ok I will try that and let you know if it works or not.

It didn't work. I removed the drive, then reinserted it and made sure that it was in as far as it would go but nothing changed. It still shows up on my bios, but does not show at all once I am into either OS.

Could be a driver issue.

Ended up having to reformat the computer (my own idiot self fault). Everything works correctly now though and I got lucky and all my files that were on the computer before reformat stayed (music, videos, basically all of the My Documents crap). Thanks for the help again though people, it is great to know that there is a place people can go to and ask for help without having to worry about being called a n00b or anything like that.

Thanks again,
Rebkee
