TM8100 Slooooooow DVD Burning...new drivers?

Hey everyone,

My optical drive died in my TM 8100, and Acer sent me a new one. It's working just fine now, but I'm having burning problems. I've tried both iTunes and NTI DVD Maker, and I can only burn 2X. I know I'm supposed to be getting 8X burning. I checked Acer's downloads site for new drivers, but optical drive drivers aren't even posted at all. I've read a few other posts on the subject here at the forums, and I tried updating drivers through Device Manager (didn't work). I'm thinking about installing the Adaptec ASPI drivers as that was suggested in another topic, but I have no idea what they do. I checked the ATA Secondary thing and they're both set to "DMA if available."

DarthAcer, you once suggested turning of XP CD burning, but I couldn't really figure out how to do that. Can someone help me?

I called them, as I have the extended warrantee. The number is listed on the Acer Support site. I don't know it off-hand.

It's possible that firmware in your DVD/CD burner does not know about high-speed media you are trying to use. Try different blanks. Some 4x or 8x speed for instance. I know that newest 16x are not all being recognized as such and burner falls back to 2x for those.

Other than that, search for firmware update for your DVD/CD burner.

My 8200 has same problem. After some research, I found the burner always burn at CLV mode. Some media advertise as 8X, but only 2x - 6x at CLV mode. My experience is the DVD+R/RW has higher CLV speed than DVD-R/RW。
