True, true!

Sure where theres a will theres a way - but I don't want to spend a week trying to figure out how to play Fallout on the laptop.
Never have played Fallout! I loved Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics, though. Wasn't sure I'd be able to play Fallout after having played the 2 games after it.

have you ordered your 8790 yet?
Not yet, the Gods of Timing have squelched me for the moment. It's the weekend here, so between being at work and that fact, I couldn't do anything about getting yen sent to my US acct. Once Monday hits... we're off to the races

Its going to be great to watch TV and movies on there ... i saw a toshiba one at futureshop and it looked amazing...
Ohhmy, you said Future Shop. I feel dirty. FS and I are not good friends No matter what you do, hopefully you don't buy a laptop from them.

Too bad the 9700 isnt available for any 16" lappies.... and yeah - the 5680 looks so bad because, #1: its 2 tone, and SILVER - silver ALWAYS rubs off, #2: The front control "deck", (the little LCD + play, pause, back, forward buttons) is slanted in a diagonal - should be straight/flush to the case like the 8890....
Eez jus' UGLY!

so the 8890 is a lot nicer - but huuuuuuge. heh. Ah well. i'll prolly end up settling for that. >_<
I don't think you really need to think of it as settling (unless the size is an issue). The 8890 isn't a bad machine- just bulky. There's nothing wrong w/ not wanting an 8790~ it's all about what you want/need. Sure, there's a lot of us slavering like mad dogs around here because someone threw a couple bones in the kennel, but I don't think ev'one should have to feel that they're being left out or anything because they're not jumping on the 8790 bandwagon.

BTW- 日本でどこに行くつもりですか? Where are you headed in Japan?

hm. well before i finally put an order in for the 8890 - i WILL do research on 17" WXGA gaming. maybe find some screens or something. i was referring to fallout 2. I played and finished that - religiously. 1 i started AFTER 2, and quit it a bit into it - tactics i didn't like because of its linearity.

i hate futureshop as well. oooh how i hate them. but i needed to see these screens (some of them anyways) in action before i decided on one. I read somewhere on these forums about the m9700 performing like a 9600PRO desktop card - this is quite.... "meh" to say the least. I was hoping that it might perform like my desktop 9700PRO but i guess thats too much to wish for.

If this is the case however, that means the m9600 must be quite weak indeed - it is about a year old now... >_< .... yup - must research WXGA gaming. heh.

japan - i'm going to Katata on the shores of Lake Biwa in the Shiga prefecture. I will be 30 mins from Kyoto by train. i'm EXCITED!! finally be living on my own!! and i actually ENJOY teaching english!! GO ME!!

Sweet! Kyoto's beautiful. And you're a skip and a hop away from Osaka for when you want to get out and play. You'll have to drop me a line when you finally get here

no FF AND living in Japan!!??!
No one that I've ever known had it or recommended it. I did play a little bit on Playstation, but I didn't know if that'd be the same as what was on the PC. And now that I'm here in Japan, it's mostly work work work. In fact, I don't know any gamers here. Most of the ppl I talk to are lucky to turn a computer on, much less game w/ it.

In fact, I have to laugh at myself because last night I met a gal and we were describing our jobs to each other and she said that she used a computer at work... I immediately asked if she was any good at using computers! She did say that she likes computers, but it didn't sound like she was too knowledgeable yet.

So no, no pressure here for FF. I'll have to check it out, tho', when I get a chance.

FFVII is the one to play. (if u're new to the series). PC and PS versions are pretty much identical. though you get Anti Aliansing (god i slaughtered that word) and smoother gfx.... you should get a USB to PSX controller converter, so you can play on your PC with your PSx controller. ....

be like me.
