After a trip to Sager to have a power board replaced my 9860 came back with a tendency to lock up Photoshop CS and Compupic PRO at random.
Sager 9860s
3.8GHz
2Gm Mem
XP Pro
Nvidia Ge Force Go 6800
Things I have done so far:
System Restore (twice)
Upgraded Nvidia to v 8.44
XP Pro latest updates
Installed Photoshop CS2 with no other programs
Ruled out overheating with mobmeter (45C to 49C)
I contacted Adobe tech support and was told that I may have a corrupt BIOS. When I checked the CMOS it showed that it had been upgraded to V146 1.00.10s . The latest BIOS that is shown on the Sager site is 1.00.05. Going back and forth with Sager Tech support I was told to roll back to "1.06". I was given a file 988bv06s.zip which I assume is the 1.06 (the numbers are confusing me even more than I am already). I am now reluctant to try this rollback since if this BIOS is also defective, I may have a totally dead machine. And it will be my fault!!! I have been duly warned by Sager.
I have always been against automatic BIOS updates as they many times cause more problems that they solve. Especially when they are Not Ready for Prime Time as this one seems to be. The short one sentence responses that I am getting from Sager seem to point that way. Not to mention the fact that 4 months later it is still not on the Sager update matrix. I normally cautiously wait 3 or 4 months after an update comes out to install it to make sure that it does not have issues. It seems in this case I became an involuntary beta tester and I won the lottery!
I hope someone has a suggestion or observation as I have been recommending this laptop to everyone and am now less enthusiastic to do so.
Thank you in advance
Lou
