Hey Gurus...Quicktime problem

My husband (an avowed Apple hater ) just upgraded Quicktime to the Pro version, and he now gets Error 47 when he tries to run QT. (Happens on two different computers...).

Have posted for help on Apple Discussions (seems others have the same issue) - but no response so far. Anybody have an idea???

repair permissions would be my first step. u also might wanna see if there's a more recent update for iTunes/Quicktime.

Oops - I should have specified this is on his Windows machine (I've had Macs for years, and I don't think he's ever touched one ). I've suggested he reload QuickTime...

Have also googled, etc. May have to resort to a phone call to Apple...it's funny how we get used to being able to find out everything on the internet these days.

Just for the records your posting on a mac notebook forum, not trying to be an asshole but you might be better off posting in a different forum.

I think I'd start by totally removing QuickTime, then running through the registry with something (manually if nothing else, with 'regedit' or 'regedt32') for all references to QT and removing them, followed by a reboot then install QT again.

Google seems to (very vaguely!) imply that Error 47 is something like 'Invalid URL', so I wonder if there was a default URL or maybe a last visited URL that the new version dislikes.

</End Mac Forum Invasion>

Thanks, muffinman. I know this is a Mac notebook forum- I also know there are lots of smart folks who pop in here once in a while, and just thought I'd post on the off chance someone had a helpful hint. (Question is also posted in Apple Discussions) Yes, aaron...it is the invalid URL issue. Will see if we can work through that. Thanks for the suggestion. (btw - please stop by the Mac section any time!)

I have a little automated Registry Cleaner application btw (written by Microsoft, but no longer available officially) if you want it - it tends to be a little 'heavy handed' in what it removes, but it creates a backup of everything it takes out, so you just remove the bits you really don't want from the backup and restore the other stuff..

Shoot me a PM with your email address if you like and I'll mail it over (it's a tiny little executable).

The registry - the most evil part of Windows..

I keep an eye on here regularly btw If I could justify dropping nearly $4k on something I wouldn't productively use then I'd buy a nice 17" MacBook Pro tomorrow But that would be a seriously expensive toy!
