dell is offering an e1505-duo (1gigo ram, 256mb-x1400, dvdrw, 5400rpm hdd) for about $800.00+ though the 4000+ is impressive, wondering about the 100gb hdd - knowing gateway, they probably sneak in 4200rpm, thus just killing the machine cheers ...

Humm would be sweet if you could somehow config it w/ 2GB CPU, 2GB DDR2 Ram and 100GB 7200RPM HD w/ Built-in Creative Soundblaster Audio, but I don't think it would be $800.00+ maybe around $1200 to $1300 + Shipping & Handling Well I guees I can DREAM..................

What would be cheaper is just getting a mx7525 motherboard someday. Wish some of those were available.

Yeah about $600.00+ cheaper, I've looked for MX7515, MX7525, MX7527 series mobo's, all over-the-web, even ask Gateway, but they didn't have a clue as to where I could get any of them, so far, I haven't found ANY, not even on EBAY.COM, at least not as of yet, but, as long as I own this 7405GX Shadow Case at least I have something it would fit into...............

I seen one or two MX75 motherboards on ebay before so they are out there, hopefully in another year or two the market will be flooded with them and more will end up on ebay. 7405GX motherboards show up all the time.

The MX7525 is a nice machine. It only has 128 mb of ram that is decatied. If you go out to ATI web site and type in HYPER MEMORY you will see how they get their 256 mb of VRAM. For the price at the time it was a good buy, and yes they did sneak in a 4200rpm hard drive, but if thats bothering you, you can buy a segate 160gb 5400rpm for about 2 big ones at FRY'S that stacks the data perpendicular verses all the others. that is why they (seagate) can get it on a 2.5 hard drive.

it does bother me, yes
- because it is amazing that consumers are still being subjected to a sort of "patronizing" attitude from retailers - but may be we deserve it, big number (100gb) does sound better than small one (60gb), irrelevant of what the end performance is to be (4200rpm vs 7200rpm)
but then , w/o this attitude, these forums would not be around, in order to point these dingy out - n'est ce pas?

cheers ...

think they made a mistake with the DDR2 (as its states here :Its blazing fast 2.6GHz processor, (1GB of incredibly efficient DDR memory), huge 100GB hard drive and spectacular DVD+/-RW Multi-Format Double Layer optical drive deliver performance to rival any powerhouse PC you have in the office or at home.)
looks like it should be 1GB od DDR 533

Yeah I saw that............I don't think so On the Gateway Specs Website it says 1GB PC2700 333MHz and a 100GB 4200RPM HD http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/.../5964sp3.shtml so I think The TigerDirect.com Add is WRONG
