All I can say is WOW.. This thing is soo much better made then my Dell M170 and M1210. This laptop is solid and runs super fast!!! Granted, it only has 512MB of RAM (2gig is on its way), and it flies.

I don't think I'll ever go back to Dell again.

Awesome, djinn. Can't wait for the pics and benchies. Gotta do the Alienware dance to celebrate the safe landing:

Great news! I hope you love it. I am thinking of gettting the 2 gig upgrade. What RAM did you purchase? You got it from NewEgg, right?

Congratulations on getting your m5550. Enjoy.

I've got some benchmarks of my 2.0 GHz posted over at Alienware Reviews and Alienware Benchmarks to compare your 2.16 to.

It would be nice to maybe build up a data base of benchmarks of all the available processors, Core 1 Duo and Core 2's, as well as video cards, the Nvidia Go 7600 and ATI x1400, for the m5550 laptop line. Perhaps include the m5500 line. Maybe do the same for the other laptop lines too. Just a thought.

I actually got the RAM (Low Latency 4) from Alienware. 2gigs (1gbx2) for $218.00 which includes shipping. This thing actually flies with only 512mb so I can only imagine what 2gig will do.

How'd you get their 2 gb for $218.00?

Be sure to do a memory benchmark on that memory. Curious how that CAS 4 performs.

By the way, that is CAS 4, 667 MHz, PC2-5300 memory?

Yep.. I specifically asked for the ram that goes in the m5550 with that CAS 4. Whats interesting is.. it says it won't be delievered til Sept 5th, but its at Fedex in my State now. Didn't someone say FedEx Delivers on Saturday?

So far I've had luck with it. Played WOW with the lid open and closed running it pretty intense. I'll keep my eye out on it.

Only complaint I have so far with the m5550 is mouse movement at the res 1600x1200 on an external monitor. Doesn't move has smooth. I'm guessing its cause I'm pushing the Video card at this res.

When you have a chance...
How's WoW perform with the 512? (FPS? Settings?) I'm eager to hear as I may be getting a system myself. Ill probably take your advice and order 2GB from newegg! Thanks!

This seems like a good set of RAM. Cas 4 too!

Running WOW on the Native Screen (1280x800) with the 512RAM runs about 45 -55FPS. That is outside of huts and buildings. In huts and buildings 60fps. Now when I went to heavy loaded places like IF, thats when I got killed because of the lack of ram. But the system did load the people and ran awesome. However, it did get jumpy cause of the lack of RAM. Settings were 1280x800, multisampler 24bit x 24bit x 4x. Everything turned HIGH except distance is in the middle. Level of Detail is uncheck (check to increase performance; no need) and Trilleaner Filtering checked along with V-Sync. But if you go into crowded places like IF, etc.. you need RAM! Performance of this machine is very impressive with WOW. Almost performs better then my wifes M170 and that has the 7800GTX in it.

Yes they do. I received my laptop last Saturday. As for your problems w/your mouse, that shouldn't be a video issue, but a mouse issue. Have you loaded it's specific software? It has adjustaments in it. Also I don't think the cheaper ball mouse is as sensitive as say, a laser mouse at higher resolutions, if that's what you have. .

Still says at sort facility! Says estimated delivery the 5th but I wonder if they will try today since they got it in early.

Hope you get the RAM today! Give us an update of how it runs with the new boost to memory! I'd love to hear how awesome WoW is with the full 2GB now! Keep us updated

sounds like an awesome system youve got there! That 2GB RAM thing seems common in these laptops lately, it must really boost the performance huh

Looks like I won't be getting the RAM today, which is fine. When I do get it I'll tell you how it runs. It should improve the performance quite a bit.
If it runs like you said (50+)FPS with only 512MB RAM, it should run around 60+ all the time! Thats exactly what Im looking for in a laptop Let me know for sure how it runs when you get the RAM. On a semi-quizi-related topic: how is it 7.1 Audio with only 1 audio jack *suposedly?* Any explanation on how and/or if I can get my 7.1 Surround sound speakers to work when I get the AW would be much appreciated.
