Was looking at some screenshots, and alot of people seem to have gotton Microsoft Works. Does AW include this? That would simply be awesome considering all I use is Word...

They usually throw that bundle in. However, Word is part of the MS Office Family and not MS Works.

ORLY?

That's odd. When I ordered my Dell Dimension 4550 (needed a new home server and PC for home office. Recently upgraded it to 2GB Ram and a Nvidia FX5500 video card) I ordered Works. It includes Word with it. Is this something special from Dell? Can anyone confirm Works from AW not including Word. This is odd indeed.

I am nearly ready to order my m5550! I hope it will enjoy its place on the desk with my Dell and Mac Mini!

I don't think I'll ever go back to Dell again.

LOL, I remember how excited I when with my first Alienware sytem arrived... It was back in the day when you could say, "Wow, it has 512M of RAM" instead of "it only has 512M of RAM"...

Yeah, I tell ya, you kids today have it easy...

Alienware doesn't usually offer productivity software standard with their systems. One of the benefits is "no bloatware"... The works suite thing coming free is a new thing for AW, so I'm not sure how long it will last. If you didn't order the works suite with your system and it's offered now, you can call and have it added to your order if you buy a qualifying system.

And works suite doesn't come with word... I had to buy microsoft office for the wife just because she's used to word, and all I had was works...

Kids!? I don't see myself as a kid. I was in the Packard Bell 386 era.

But yeah. I need my 2gig, like yesterday!

Hehe. Well thats disappointing, irt the Word issue. I can deal with OpenOffice for awhile I suppose; Microsoft Office is just so damn expensive!

On the topic of kids...
Anyone still got their Apple II is working order? I know mine is! The old girl sits in the basement and actually gets decent use. Its printer seems to be the only one in the house that does printing to an envelope correctly. Pretty much all letters wind up getting typed on my good ol' Apple II.

Can't wait to see this thing with 2 gigs of ram!!!!!! THe 7.1 Audio works because its a digital output (s/pdif) right? i think anyway........ I hope to order one of these amazing machines sometime in the near future as well, except for the darn $147 CAD shipping to Ontario!!! o well, I think its worth it, dont know about my parents though....... in my room right now i have a p2 300Mhz, with 96MB of ram, the video card (some 4meg or sommat) is stuck on 16 colors though lol!!! and there are no drivers on the planet for the ancient and a 1/2 sound card........ CAN'T WAIT TO GET ALIENWARE!!!!!!! (after convincing my 'rents of course...)

i would also like to see the benchies for oblivion on this thing, and also, is the vid card a GT or just a normal one? how well does it overclock? (3dmark06!!!)

what's about "loudness" ???

hi@all

i'm an musician and want to buy an:
Alienware m5550 - Core Duo 2 (2.0ghz), 2gig DDR, 100gig 7200 RPM HDD, Nvidia 7600 256, 8x DVD Burner

before i can set the order, for me it's very important to know all about the "noise development" of that notebook.

thanks for your help

I am not sure what you mean by noise development. However, if you are looking to make, compose, burn, rip, decode and encode music this machine will suit your needs very, very well. I hope this helps and good luck

The laptop has a FAN button to lower the speed of the CPU which will lower the speed of the fan. Hope that helps.

djinn is right. Also, I haven't heard any complaints about excessive loud noises coming out of the laptop. It should run fairly quiet as long as you keep the lappie cool

An external laptop cooler, I guess.
