"Pretty" Asus Core2Duo Models?

Hey guys. I'm going to be in the market for a new ASUS pretty soon, preferably a Merom. I currently have a W3V,and admit I'm totally addicted to the pretty

Here's more or less what I'm looking for...

Pretty! Think W3V/J, W2J etc.... high quality materials, aluminum, carbon fiber, good design, magnetic closure.
Smallish and light - 14" widescreen seems to be the sweet spot. I'd go up to 15" widescreen though
Screen - Glossy type, high quality. At least as good as the W3V's. 1280x768 is a good res for 14". I wouldn't want to go too high, as it would cut down on how long a graphics card "lasts".
Graphics card - Best one can get in this form factor. I'd prefer the "new versions" or one better than the X1600 or 7600. 512mb dedicated would be nice.
Modular battery and/or replaceable slot-loading DVD burner.
All the other "normal" stuff. DVI out, Core2Duo etc...

To be honest, I'd be elated if a W3 refresh came out with something better than an X1600 (X1700?) and DVI out. Even better would be a W3 with a Nvidia gfx card, as Nvidia plays nicer with Linux than ATI. Anything like this on the horizon?

I know there are a lot of nice ASUS models out there, but at least from the picture they arn't quite as "pretty" as the W3, W2 or perhaps the V6. If there is anything I've forgotten or something new on the horizon, let me know!

Thanks guys!

The W3 may not have a GPU upgrade, the x1600 is pretty high end in such a small chassis anyways, unless the new GPUs have some sort of awesome cooling system

The V1j is an upcoming model, as well as the Lambo Vx2 and Vx3 units, which is completely shrouded in mystery

thats some pretty tough talk, but can you back it up?

What are you talking about? This model has already been confirmed from the leaked laptop mag review as well as a chinese website, all can be found either here or on the NBR forum. Out of the loop I presume?

Yeah.. the A8Js is sure powerful, but it'll miss the W models "prettyness" factor and modular bay

I'd also like to point out that it's only $1499 USD
post #8 of 17
....and availability is still uncomfirmed
post #9 of 17
....and the real review is still MIA.

I am SOLD on this laptop. Especially if the hard drive is 7200rpm.

I want a laptop right now, but am holding off until this can be confirmed.

Just a wild guess here, but at $1500 US the hard drive probably won't be 7200rpm, I'm guessing a 5400.

Well I think even with a 5400rpm hard drive, this price point seems unlikely for the stats on this laptop.

I know it seems to good for true. All I'm waiting for is the CDN price and availability, I would pay $2200 USD for it.

Is the 7700 the next midrange Nvidia video card? Haven't been able to find much information on it.

That would be an awesome laptop but very $$$$$.

1440 x 900 is just perfect for 14" wide screen IMO.

The A8Js stats look pretty great. Unfortunately, I think the chassis looks cheap compared to the W3 or W2 models.

The availability is the real issue. There's no telling how long you'd have to wait for it.
