Screen started flickering with little dots

Hi,

I have had my Travelmate 8104 for nearly a year now. Just recently portions of the screen have started flickering.

The flickering is lots of little yellow orangy dots near one another and although I've seen them on the title bar of a window, I've mostly seen them on photo images.

If I pick up the machine and close/open the monitor a tiny bit then they usually go away. So maybe something loose? Also doing this can sometimes make the whole screen go a bit fuzzy like a TV that needs fine tuning.

Any ideas?

Cheers, Ian.

I rang Acer support. They said send it in. No hurry. The fact that you've logged the case before the warranty expires is sufficient. I send it in. Few days later its back. Turn it on and immediately the screen is flickering.

Log another case still before the warranty has expired. Send it in. It gets there the day the warranty expires. I call them and they say we've found a problem and we're sending you a bill because its out of warranty!

I said that the first case should increase the warranty by 3 months. This was confirmed when I called to log the second case. But apparently the 3 month extension only applied when they've made a repair. (Although they did say they'd tightened some connections.)

Is this standard Acer policy? Near the end of the warranty, send it back unrepaired. Clean up on the return?

I rang back to see what had been made of my previous enquiry and they said the system defaults to out of warranty even if there's an extension in place or if the case was opened before the warranty expired. In this case though the warranty was indeed still valid. (Ironically I'd actually given them the wrong purchase date anyway. I'd said it was a day earlier than it was so it was actually still under the original warranty when it arrived anyway!)

So they apparently replaced the mainboard and charger and it does appear to be fixed.

So I think 'crock of shit' is a bit harsh. Unless it starts going wrong again... thankyou Acer support!
