5672 Wierd hibernation problem

Ok. Well I've had my 5672 since Feb. (x1400 w/ 2gb RAM XP Home from CompUSA). One of the things I noticed right away was that it would fail to hibernate if there were any programs running at the time (daunting to someone who owned a string a mac laptops beforehand).

So in the last few months it goes into hibernate (no programs running) but when I hit the power button to bring it out of hibernate I get the acer startup screen but then nothing but black. I have to do a hard power down to reboot. Sometimes it doesn't do it if I have the AC adapter connected. But it does it pretty consistantly if it's just powered off the battery. I'm thinking it may be time to send this thing in for repairs (not that I can afford to). And it doesn't seem to be software related (just reloaded windows a few weeks ago due to virus infection).

Has anyone else seen this and maybe even have a solution? Thanks.

Try updating windows. Also did you guys updated the BIOS so you can be Core 2 Duo ready ?

just got my system 3months ago, the latest bios came preinstalled, i'am all core 2 duo ready, i noticed to, when i used to use the bios splash screen, sometimes the lil centrino duo, would be the blue core duo logo instead...thought that was kinda wierd, wonder if when i put merom in, it will alread display the logo,

I would get the two different logos when I was playing with mac os x restarting and installing.

What's the version # of the bios that allows for core 2 duo?

Do you guys know if they waranty that comes with our laptop is one year and if it covers repairs parts, etc for the first year?

I've just bought the same laptop and have had exactly the same problem as tasslehawf. Acer recommended i do a system restore using my restore disk (which didn't work), so i did it via the Alt F10 (i THINK that's the right keys). This installed it all again and it's actually been working fine since. When i spoke to acer they said that if it didn't fix itself after a restore, that it would be eligible for free repair (as it's in the 1 year warranty). Apparently sometimes the restore sorts it out and sometimes it doesn't.

Guys all it is is you need a update,
If running XP home (and sometimes XP Pro) and it has more then 1gb of ram you need a speacial update. Called: WindowsXP-KB909095-x86-ENU

Search google for it and download it. ( Im too busy to post the link)
Hope this helps

Thanks. That worked for the first problem of it failing to hibernate. But unfortunately it's still coming back to a black screen after it wakes up from hibernation.

The black screen problem should be fixed with the latest video drivers..
