New in this beta 4 release:

NHC 2.0 - Pre-Release-04 (01.09.2006)
- removed the voltage control bug of the earlier NHC 2.0 Pre-Releases -> IMPORTANT BUG FIX!
- (example: System locked up on CPU Speed Max. Performance)
- removed the problem "Error initializing ACPI control system"
- (some systems had this problem)
- To-Do: prepare the release 2.0, add more ACPI Control System classes, AMD Voltage Control support,
- change CPU temperature warning to CPU temperature clockdown

Download it here :

Hopefully this will resolve issues that some of you were having with the previous release.

thanx sol... will give a try. Started to not like 1.3...
I think I'll wait until it becomes non-beta or I see more "no problems" posts in here.

How about adding Vista support?

Have you looked into it at all? Because at the moment, its a nogo...

Did they include GPU overclocking? It was stated they would in the version I have in the next release. Not that I really need it as I just use the coolbits add on to nVidia control panel but still.. a nice feature to include all the same.

Sol, thanks for the heads up. I gave this program a try and I absolutely fell in love with it. I was having problems with BSODs when using 4GB of RAM and this program fixed it. Turns out it was a voltage setting.

I love how much this program does without sucking a lot of resources out of the system.

Destruya- the only problems I have seen were with beta 3 (I did not experience those issues) Might want to check it out after it's been out a few weeks (b4). NHC has been in beta forever lol.

Excellent! Thanks for the heads up Sol. This version no longer locks up my 1705. It also doesnt have the speed 'flickering' issue the old version had where it rapidly speedstepped between 6x - 13x (which may have also contributed to the lockups...) Excellent post!

Did you guys manipulate anything with NHC or do you just use it to monitor your hardware? Do you guys use Dynamic Switching when on AC power or have it set to Max Performance. I am wondering the speed difference. If I could have the temp of my processor run cooler without sacrificing much performance, that would be great.

I use max performance on AC power, dynamic switching on the battery when I know there is AC within access & Max battery when I am away from available power sources. I am sure DS offers close to max performance, but I prefer to just have max performance at all times. my system running idle on the table hovers around 95 F. I am so set the HDD to power down after 30 minutes on AC & 5 minutes on battery mode.

I have not really played with the voltages under max multiplier settings but I am sure dropping that a litlte would also offer a temp drop.

I use it to undervolt my CPU primarily (havent tried undervolting the core duo yet, as this is the first stable new release that hasn't crashed my system...) As far as switching goes, I use Max Performance as my AC Line profile and Dynamic Switching for my Battery profile. Dynamic Switching will underclock the CPU multiplier to the lowest possible setting until your system calls for more power, which it then delivers. Without NHC installed, the system power options you choose will control what your system does. As long as SpeedStep is enabled in the system BIOS, you can set your power scheme to "Portable/Laptop" and it will run just like the "Dynamic Switching" profile does in NHC. If you choose the "Home/Office Desk" power scheme, it will bypass the speedstep control and just run at max performance.

So.. if you have NHC installed and want a cool running system, use the Dynamic Switching feature to conserve battery and keep the CPU cooler.

When I click on Start Full CPU Stability Check, nothing happens. Is that normal? Also, what does ACPI mean? I have that control system enabled but I have a message below it saying that it isn't configured yet. I can't tell how to configure it neither. Any help is greatly appreciated.

ACPI programming information (link)
http://www.pbus-167.com/nhc/nhc_adva...pi_programming

when you are under the CPU Voltage tab and you are looking at the set button you whould see the block of ice/fire icon for stability check. That should bring up a smaller window that will run the stability check.

another ACPI link

Unless you have the C# programming concept down, using the ACPI settings would be challenging (to say the least) to figure out. I have a basic knowledge of it myself, and haven't yet found a good enough reason to try and write it out... Don't really need the extra functions it offers anyway.. lol

BTW - ACPI = "Advanced Configuration & Power Interface"

Thanks again for the info.

Now let me ask you. What voltage settings do you recommend for the system in my sig. You see, I get constant BSODs when 4GB of RAM is installed. However, when I have only 2GB installed, the system is as stable as it gets. I have ran many diagnostic tests and no errors come up. I am thinking that it might be a voltage setting. Now I don't know if I should increase/decrease voltage and how I would accomplish it.

At the moment my system idles at 2161 MHz clock speed and on multiplier 13x (1.2250V). When I had only one 2GB RAM DIMM installed, it would idle at multiplier 6x (.9500V).

Thanks in advance...

It kept crashing my computer before when I would go to battery, I'll try this new release.
hmm progs been randomly going "not responding" of late... anyone else getting this?
Yeah, when I install my 4GB of RAM, my system becomes very unstable. I believe it is something to do with the voltage. I have tested each card independently and they each work perfectly by itself. Anyone know what settings I should use with the computer in my sig? I don't know if I should undervolt/overvolt.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have not had that problem on any of my 3 Dell laptops. I currently have the latest version installed...

Just to clarify, Home/Office only runs at fullspeed on AC power. Only 'Always On' runs at fullspeed regardless of power source.
