New m5750 Grainy Graphics. NEED HELP! - Page 2

Alienware's warranty states that after a reasonable number of repairs they will build you a brand new system to replace the defective one. Hang in there and you may end up with a brand new system (and upgraded components to boot). Hope it doesn't actually get to that point. Good luck and sorry to hear you're still having issues.

Good luck.

Ladies and gentelmen! I have resolved my issue with the raid controller. THe alienware technicians are some of the stupidest people i have ever encountered in my various experiences with tech-support agencies. The issue was that my raid controller would not stick to raid 0. So they told me it was a raid controller issue and to send it in. Well i did. All they did was just try what i did. The hit tab during the boot process got into the raid setup and then just installed windows. Remember how i said it wouldnt stick to the setting i wanted? Well it didnt for them either. The controller kept going to raid 1. And the computer was sent to me with raid 1. When i was looking at the invoice on the my hive thing i saw this link for a raid driver, installed it, used it to set to raid 0, gave a fresh install of windows. And viola. I have outsmarted Alienware tech-support. Now there still lies the issue of the missing case foot, and the grainy graphics.

Guys I just realized something. The mobiity x1800 is supposed to have a gpu clock speed of 450mhz but alienware waters it down to 398mhz. If they built a decent heatsink system we could be experiencing much better game play. Isnt that what alienware is ment for better gameplay.
I thought Alienware was meant for high performance gaming systems. And I would much rather have a stable graphics card than one clocked 50 Mhz higher that burns out every few months on catches fire (its happened before). Just my $.02 worth.
I dont want it to burout either but i would like to see a more efficient heatsink. When they had me reseat the video card i saw the heatsink. It was the single most thermodynamically inefficient piece of equipment i have seen in quite some time.
I'll agree some manufacturers don't have the most efficient products out there, but don't blame Alienware. They buy most of the parts they use and put them together. IMO they should offer AS5 for cpu and gpus for an extra fee. Anyways, look at it from their standpoint: replacing all those gpu's just to get a 50 Mhz bump isn't worth it to the company. They'll lose money and customers b/c they'll complain their computers fry every few months from overheating. There's only so much designers can do to channel airflow through a laptop and Alienware recognizes that and does their best to operate their products at the highest level of stable performance.

Whats AS5?

Artic Silver 5 (I think? ) and its a silver compound that greatly increases heat transfer from components to heatsinks and heatpipes.

UPDATE- So my onsite technician comes over and replaces my video card. The issue still persists. So the onsite tech says that the issue is the lcd. I call up Alienware and tell them my news. They say that I am going to have to send it in for a third time. Even though my technician said that he has done lcd installs for alienware before. This is bull shit. Im waiting till my christmas break to send it in for a new lcd. But because they finally understand that i am pissed they say it will only take a week and a half.

Hey guys I had a question! When I send it in to get my LCD replaced should I ask them to put in the 1440X900 screen instead? I currently have the 1920X1200! my reasoning is that it would take less power to run games in the native resolution. But i was reading Alienwares spec sheet on the two lcds and it seems that the 1440X900 consumes a substantially greater amount of power.

You got someone too come out and fix it for you? thats pretty awesome since I had too fix my whole problem myself when it was borken.

Im having the same issue with my M5750, i have had it for week and i just notice now that im more relaxed with it i guess. I have read countless forum post and it seems to be the lcd, right. a simple test to see if its lcd or card is open a image that exposes the grains or makes then easyer to see, images that have mid to dark tones of grey to black work best look at one point and move the image around just abit. you will notice the grains do not move with the pic, thus they are on the lcd right? its like a static noise on the screen. i really notice it on FLight sim X during a night or dawn flight everthing will be moving but the these "Grains" do not move its on screen =(
Everything else about the machine is sweet, Playing BF2 with high setting is great and you don't really notice the grain in bf cause its such a bright game as is. gah this sux

seems as if these pix maybe? are having trouble producing or sync colours they are just off by a bit, and just a bit to notice, and this is all over the screen, even looking at my desktop background i can notice the offset this grainy effect. anyone know of an app that goes through the pix on a lcd and test them maybe some way to rest the screen of sorts. i have read of ppl updating bios and having luck, but thats them.

Update! Well i sent it in for a third time and they send me an lcd that was worse than before! My dedicated technician tells me that upper management will let me put all the money i put into this system into another one!.......Hmmm m9750 anyone?
m9750 would be an excellent choice sir.

dragonman, glad you didn't come in here with guns ablaze and bash alienware because of lcd problems since they don't even make the lcd's. When I read a post that bashs a company for a problem with their comp over a hardware issue I generally get a little upset myself and not at the company but the end user who doesn't realize 90% of the stuff that goes into that computer is probably not made by said company.

Oh yeah once again m9750! "just sign here on the dotted line X........................."

That last post is not to say that im not angry at them! This computer was pretty much down for half of the first semester...and im an engineering major who needs a working computer. I sent it in three times. For various issues the video issue existing three times. I had an onsite tech come to me and comfirm the issue. I sent it in three times and even gave them pics that show the problem and they still didnt resolve. Couldnt they atleast test the screen after the replacement withthe given images............Hell glad to be going for an m9750

I am in your same position, I received full refund also. I opted for the m9700 myself. It was a painless situation and my system was shipped today, I have the tracking numbers and all. (01/17/2007 01:52 PM My system was received at their facilities, 01/30/2007 03:47 PM My system was shipped... two weeks, not bad!) In the end thier support came through and did exacly what it was supposed to and make the customer happy.
