gateway m505x

Hi,

I am looking to purchase a m505 x this week. or maybe a dell 8600. what should I do. Is there any advantages over either one? I know that dell can get me the 128vram which would come in handy, but Im not a huge gamer. Though I do play generals and cod often. Would the dell be a better choice? would 64mb be enough on the gatway? which is a better quality? Im so confused - please help

Hey guys, had the same battle myself about two months ago. In fact both machines showed up on my doorstep at the same time and I kicked back the 8600. The forums really do say it all. I have the m505xl and I am very pleased. It is light, quiet, nice build, long battery life and has great gaming performance. The 8600 has some numbers on its side but as for everything else, doesn't look so good. My point. M505 is an awsome machine, and you will not regret its purchase. Any Qs feel free to ask.

I was in the same boat about a month ago. I went with the 505x for several reasons. The reviews on this forum and others were much better than the reviews on the 8600. I got the 505x for less than the 8600 for the same configured machine. Also, while I wouldn't base my decision solely on looks, the 505x is a lot better looking laptop than anything Dell makes.

I've had zero problems in the month that I've had it.

I think Im going with the gateway. I figure I can get the aaa discount and I can also buy the 20 gig jukebox with the cash Im saving. I just returned my sager 5680 due to weight and battery life. So im saving some serious cash. Even though I did see a similiarly configured dell on the sell site - refurbished. I here mixed things about buying refurbs, so Ill probably go with the gateway, though gateway really pissed me off yesterday, there esales people are so rude. Everyone has great things to say about the m505 So that may be the way to go. Could anyone tell me what the real PROS and CONS of the gateway m505x and the DELL 8600 are, on a side by side comparison.

Come on friend, do some research. This board is loaded with information on both of these machines and most people here haven't owned BOTH of them so nobody can give you a hands on "side by side comparison".

Search, read, and ask specific questions about each machine. Then make your own comparisons.

MarkY - Just to let you know - I have done my research and I have searched the forums. When I read the dell forums I see so many praises about the 8600 and when I read the gateway forums i read many praises about the 505. I ask for a side by side comparison because maybe someone on the forum has used the 2 side by side. very honest question.

I believe that these forums are here so that people can get INFORMATION. Can you tell me - MarkY - why you even care if I am asking this question? The purpose of this forum is to tell help each other make a good decision on there next laptop purchase and to inform others about there experiences with the given product.

If I am wrong about asking this question so be it. Its only a question, I thought these forums were for that exact reason asking questions/giving iinput. Maybe instead of instructing people on what they should do inside the forum, you can help them make a better decision on what they should spend there money on.
