I just got mine. Bios: A02... Super pi sse3 score of 22s (2.33 C2D with several other programs running in the background).

got mine today. seems to be running fine. Only thing I noticed was the windows xp pro sticker on the bottom of the computer is missing half the sticker. What morons at least the sticker doesnt make the computer run any faster.

Nice enjoy ! Is there anyway this xps m1710 bios a02 can be backed up somehow? edit Yes, you can backup your BIOS. When you start your computer, press F5 or F8 to enter an options menu. Select Safe Mode Command Prompt Only. Assuming you are using an Award BIOS, you can run awdflash.exe. A new user interface should now appear and ask you if you would like to backup your BIOS (awdflash.exe’s main purpose is to upgrade the BIOS; however, it also has BIOS backup capabilities). After you accept, it you will need to choose a name for your backup file and backing up yor BIOS, it will ask if you would like to upgrade your BIOS; select "No", and the program will end.

off topic cuz mines a m1210 but i just got it, and funny thing, i got the 2.0core 2 duo and my benchmarks destroy the others that have a 2.16 merom they bought off ebay or from another company not from dell by about 15%. duno what that says but i guess its better to get it from dell w/ a new lappy ;-\.

BTW: my PI score on 2M was 58seconds, while sopmeone with 2gigs of ram and the 2.13 core 2 got 1min 11s - specs in my sig of my m1210

waiting for the order to post, but dell is supposed to replace my 1710 in my sig with a fully loaded M90 (2.33 C2D, 2500M/512,...). It should be here by monday.
When it does get here tho', there will be a bit of LCD and DVD swappin goin on as there is no way in HELL I am giving up my LG V2 screen....

I have a question for you guys:
In Canada Dell online does not give any option to add the internal bluetooth, so i had to call them to add it to my system.
And now i notice on my email confirmation order that the bluetooh module on mine XPS will be the "INT DELL 350 BLUETOOTH WRLESS,I6000".
My question is what is the difference, if any, from the Dell 350 BLUETOOTH WRLESS and the one some of you guys have, the Dell Wireless 355 Bluetooth Module?

I got the samsung, and am getting on the phone soon to have it replaced, it SUCKS!!! I got a Samsung DVD-RW drive too, and it SUCKS too. I'm thinking of just sending everything back and ordering a new one. I'll see what support has to say.

I didn't know that the Samsung DVD-RW was a bad one too.
But i knew that the samsung screen have had some problems.

NooB question: How can i check what is the screen brand in my system?

No dead pixels on the screen as far as I can see, but it looks dull, and grainy. But what I hate the most is that it is really uneven as far as lighting goes. Hard to describe, but you move your head a bit and there dark spots that move about on the screen depending how you look at it. What gets me is that my 9400 had a flawless LG screen, for half the price.

The samsung drive sucks. It skips while playing DVDs. Also, I am in the process of ripping my music collection to mp3. I can't rip faster than 4 or 5x. If I switch to my wife's NEC drive, I get up to 10-12x...

I'm not really awed by the beauty of mine. Dont' get me wrong I like the performance, but I'm not all for the Let's make it all silver. The lid is nice ( Got the Red one) and the touchpad is nice as well. But I don't like the silver trim, I still wish it was black.

Well the merom laptop showed up today. Damn that thing was 'tarded. It took almost 2 minutes to boot with all that crap on it... yuk! The Intel wireless would not connect to any network, period. Even put the card in my old 1710 and screwed that system too. The onboard lan wouldnt connect while this card was installed in either machine. The new one came with a samsung screen which is utter CRAP! They also gave me a phillips DVD burner. Had the same issue with it keeping the DMA settings.... CRAP!!

SO......

After an afternoon of part swappin', I think it is ALIIIIVEEEE! I took all the top end parts from my old lappy and transferred them to the new one (screen, DVD, Red lid). Then I installed all the upgrades I bought (ram, BT) and swapped HD's. Booted the bitch and VOILA! I FINALLY have a fully functional, decent, no light leakin', disk burnin, 64 bit havin laptop. The buzzing from the bottom is gone too. That is good because it was annoying. I have now had a chance to test the Merom a bit and it is definately faster. You do get a bit less battery life (2.25hrs compared to 2.5) but who cares. Oblivion ran noticably smoother for the 15 minutes I played, and NFS MW is smoother as well. I ran superPI and got the following results:

MEROM

2M - 1m03s

Pretty nice increase in speed IMO.

2M - 1m13s

I am off to go run some photoshop tests and the such... Ill keep posting results... And dont think that I'm not going to race these things before I send the crappy one back..... vrooom vrooom......
