Looks like we got the same crappola parts. I too can do like you did and play the swap game, but do you really feel you're getting your money's worth by doing this?

I ordered the m1710 a few weeks ago and is expecting it anytime now... i ordered it in canada.

if i end up getting the samsung screen and it sucks... can i just call up dell and tell them i want it replaced because it sucks..? or are they picky as to the reasons as to why they would send out replacements?

Yes, I have come to only trust systems built (or rebuilt) with my own 2 hands.

Can you try to rip a music CD say in itunes or another software? How fast can your drive do it?

I thought I had a samsung drive, but it's a TS-L632D like yours.

No light leakage with that Seiko Epson LCD? I know Dell usually uses LG, Samsung, or Sharp but it's nice to see they're using another brand. I am hoping I get a NEC DVD burner. Let us know how that Toshiba burns, especially DL from Verbatim.

for the guys that have recieved their m1710 systems... what does the package come with? any cds...? or in particular.. the cd key for the windows that's installed on the system?
I haven't received my M1710 yet, so I wouldn't be able to answer this, but. I can tell you that if you want to know the cd key of the windows installation that's on your PC you can download this very nice software called AIDA 32 for free (just do a search in google) and it will provide you numerous informations about your PC including the CD Key of your Windows installation.

If you need any help with this, let me know and I'll be glad to help you.

Thank you. Please let us know what is the brand of your screen when you receive your system. I'll get mine any time next week. BTW how much did you pay for your systems? I got mine for $3260 CDN. _________________ M1710 2.16Ghz Intel Duo 2 Core, 2GB DDR667, 100GB 7200RPM HD, Nvidia 7900GTX 512MB, 17" Truelife.

There is a sticker on the bottom of the laptop with the CD Key. But you don't really need it as the Dell install CD will never prompt you to enter it as long as you install on a dell system.

Follow up on this. I called XPS support today (only waited 2-3 minutes on hold). Spoke with a friendly person from Edmonton, Canada, who only asked a few questions before suggesting a system swap. I suggested we should just try a new screen as opposed to a complete system swap so this is the way we'll go for now. If I'm happy with the screen, I'll keep it. If not, I'll send the whole thing back an reorder a new one. (I'm still within my 21 days).
