Right click My Computer, Properties, Hardware, Device Manager. Navigate to DVD/CDRom Drives.

Then, to monitor, Plug and Play Monitor, Details, and then look at the string that says "DISPLAY/??????/"

LPL0000 = LG.
I forget the other ones. Report here and we can "translate". But please don't assume it's crap if it's not an LG. There are perfectly good LCDs out there that are not LG.

Thank you, appreciate it.
For sure, if it's not a LG but a good one i will keep it.
My wife has the new Toshiba P100, Core Duo 2.0, 120 HD, 512MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300, 17" WXGA TFT Display with TruBrite, so i will have a good LCD to compare with, and if the quality is as good as the Toshiba one I'll keep it, cause the toshiba lcd is fantastic. I don't know the brand of the toshiba lcd, but i'll check that later when i got home and report here.

I just got mine today, just before I left home. So I haven't had any time to play with it yet, but checking the invoice, packing slip and saw that mine has the NEC dvd burner and Samsung screen. I will check tonight to see how good or bad it is.

Did you just tell Dell about the problems (dull, grainy, uneven) with your screen and they will change it, or did you have to say anything else?

When you get the new screen how do you know that it will not be another Samsung one, I mean did you explicitly told Dell that you DO NOT want a Samsung screen anymore?
Will dell give you another LCD brand if you tell them you do not want a Samsung one, or is it a gamble, you got be luck to get a different brand?
Do you have the On Site Next Business Day warranty, or will you have to ship it to Dell?

You have a Samsung LCD, you might want to google for Nokia Test program and adjust your brightness, color, etc.

How is everyone Core 2 doing? How do you like the LCD and the overall performance? Have you tried video editing or similar conversions that the core 2 is especially fast at?

Mine also shipped 2 days ago. I also tried to ask for the LCD brand, but din't work. I'll probably get another samsung screen. I think here in canada all XPS m1710 are shipping now with the samsung LCD.

I already got mine.
Got 9141 on 3dmark05 running with all the crapware from dell, and without any driver update or tweak, that is running exactly as it came from dell. I just disable bluetooth and wireless.
The xps i had before with the 7900gtx, which I reurned due to bad screen and to get this one, gave me 8140 3Dmark05. That is an impressive 1000 increase.
The performance increase is also clearly noticeble on games as well. Oblivion is running faster and smoother, with everything maxed up. (Though riding the horse still lag a little bit, but much less than before)
FEAR extration point demo also ran like a charme. Fantastic when you use the new weapon and tear apart the whole office with that beast, no lag at all.
I got the LG screen, and I was surprised with that, because here in Canada, dell had been shipping the xps with the Samsung screen.
I was also surprised that the XPS is already coming with the new LED effects called XPS LightFX.
But one thing is gettting me: Seems that the 7950 GTX memory is underclocked, according to specs given by nvidia which says that the 7950 GTX was supposed to come with 575 MHz core and 700 MHz RAM.
Three of us who got the new 7950gtx is getting the same result, check here : http://www.notebookforums.com/post2470404.html.
One more thing: on my Nvidia Display Control panel tab it shows that the graphics card processor is unknown. Go figure it<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
