Questions before I buy a Z61T

Thread Starter
I'm about to buy a 14.1 inch Z61t but have just a few questions that came up as I did a configuration. I'm hoping there are some up here who can answer them.

1. Is bluetooth standard? I could not find anywhere that the 14.1 inch Z61t has bluetooth.

2. If I get it with the Verizon antenna am I obligated to activate it and start paying monthly? Or can I just have it and activate it when I'm ready to?

3. I saw that there is an option to get an "asset tag" for $12.00. Where exactly does Lenovo attach this asset tag?

4. Finally, and this is the most confusing of all. In the configuration, it shows that the Z61t comes with an "Integrated WiFi Wireless LAN Adapter" and says it's the "Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Mini-PCI Express Adapter" and the box is checked next to it. THEN, in the next option "Wireless LAN Accessories" it asks whether or not I want to pay $69 and choose the exact same thing "Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Mini-PCI Express Adapter." I do not understand this - am I missing something or do they just have it in here twice.

Thanks for any help you can give me. Getting a Thinkpad is a huge change for me, especially 14.1 inches after using an ultraportable with a 10.6 inch screen. Interestingly though, they both weigh the same. I think my eyes are now going to be happier with a little larger of a screen. And I'm excited about the keyboard - very important to me since I do a lot of writing.
Thanks - Cath

Hey Cath

I've got a Z61t that is just a few weeks old and I really like it. I was very concerned about the LCD brightness, but greatly surprised at the crisp bright screen.

I've got model number 9440-2CU and it comes standard with Bluetooth, the Verizon EVDO antenna that you can activate whenever you wish, and it also has the Intel 3945 ABG wireless adapter.

I would suggest you visit tabook to get a list of all the models that are pre-configured and sold by resellers. You'll probably find just the one that will fit your needs without having to wait for days or weeks to have Lenovo put it together. If you don't know what tabook is, it's a PDF file that Lenovo updates periodically that has all the configurations for all the Thinkpad models. Here's a link for the August, 2006 one.

I'm afraid I can't help you with the asset tag. I'm thinking it's embedded in one of the chips so it can't be removed. I'm sure you can find answers to this question on the Lenovo site or you might try posting a question on the Thinkpad forum at www.thinkpads.com

Thank you - that's very helpful. I'm going to look at tabook and see what's available.

Also, I was a bit concerned about the screen. Is it the Flexview screen that I've read about?

Also, another question - does it require you to put in a password to start your computer and also a password for the hard drive? I'm not crazy about doing passwords to run my computer.

About the tabook - do I find the one I want, then just call Lenovo and order it by that number?

What's the ultraportable with a 10.6 inch screen you use? My Z61t just shipped. I can't wait for it to arrive!

Hi everyone

I want to know whether IBM Z61t Intel core 2 duo CPU is upgradeable to Intel 2.33 core 2 duo down the road when the price goes down.?
I saw this on the internet for a IBM z61t for about 1100.00 USD

Richard
