7900GTX in 5720! over 9k 3DMark05 points! - Page 3

I have really debated getting a 7900gtx to drop in to my system. I imagine I could get huge 3dmarks... especially if I could get a good oc out of it. I run my cpu (2.26) at 2.6ghz as well, and the performance gain is nice.

Good to see you are still around vollgasasi.

Yeah I just couldn't bring myself to it. It is good anyway, cause now in Japan I really don't have to be very mobile with my laptop anyway. It stays at home all the time anyway. So, I would have been really upset with something more portable and less powerful.
Now, I am debating trying to swap the innards of a 5760 with mine.
I want to keep the outside case, and swapping the motherboard etc I doubt would be that hard.
I can only imagine how nice a core2 duo and 7900gtx would be ^_^
But, unless someone wants to buy my current internals I must wait.

OMG I am so happy I found this thread! I didnt know my 5720 could upgrade to the 7900GTX. Thats really good news for the future. Not that its lacking in the graphics department now but whenever I decide to upgrade!

How hard was it to replace? Did you have to get new drivers before or after you installed the 7900GTX? Etc, etc... If there is a guide for how you did it I would really appreciate it.

Also is it possible ot overclock my P-M even though it has a SATA HD. I remember hearing they can only overclock if they have the PATA HD in them. Thanks!

goran do you know how to take out your 7800go gtx? if yes, inserting the new card should be a piece of cake cause it will be the same as putting in your old card again! if not, there should be a guide somewhere floating around but its very easy anyway.

as for drivers, you should deinstall your current drivers, exchange the cards and then reinstall the drivers.

and for overclocking, no you won't have any succes with a sata hdd sorry.

I think i will post some pics soon. The upgrade was really easy.

If you have the 7800GTX, you don't have to uninstall the drivers. Just exchange the cards and everything will work

If I went out and bought a PATA drive how would I unlock overclocking?
If you have the pata drive, it is an option in the bios. You don't have to unlock it or anything.

Just buy a P-ATA drive and the adapter and the overclocking will be unlocked.
