Today i shut off my clevo 5620D (Sager 5660 ??? ) and when i tried to turn it on again the led becomes green, the cd ,hd and floppy start to work but didn't appears nothing on the lcd. I tried to unplug the brick, press the power button for 30 seconds and plug back the brick and after 5 or 6 times it boots on but after 10 seconds that windows starts it freeze, then it didn't boot up again.
I think it's a power supply problem , how can i find the cause of this matter?

i don't have the battery to make a test
Other point... some month ago i tried to update the 2,0 cpu to 2,8 but when i changed the cpu the notebook didn't boot same way like it's happening now. I put back the old cpu and everything was ok.... i tested the 2,8 cpu on a desktop pc and it worked perfectly.

don't have the battery? where is it?

I do not think it is the brick--not if the LED shows green

The start then freeze sounds like a bad cpu--but if you put it in another PC and it worked fine, I'd say bad motherboard

The battery burnt two years ago and i never bought a new one because i use the notebook as desktop. I think it's MB too unfortunately, do you know where i can buy a new one? Or do you think it's better to sell the parts ( LCD, floppy , combo cd etc.) on ebay and buy a new notebook/desktop?

Took a quick look through most of the usual laptop parts places (ebay, laptopking, laptoprepairco, laptoprepairs, excelcomputerinc) and was unable to find any--Someplace in the UK had one for $499 Euros.

It could possibly be the voltage regular circuit/card, which handles the switching back and forth between the battery and AC current (if it fails, you get no power to the motherboard), and is a common failing piece. They tend to run about $40 and on this laptop, it is separate and not on the motherboard itself.

That's a bit of a long shot, though. If I had one, I'd test it first, but spending $40 on a slim chance seems like throwing money away.

I'd probably sell it off and go hunting for new

A techinician told me the same think, that probably is the voltage regulator but he wants 600R$ to TRY to fix it (it means 280USD more or less)
You told that this piece is separate from the mb so i imagine that i can measure if there are power going out this piece or not , but i don't know where it is located. Can you explain where i find this piece? If it is broke where can i buy it?
Thanks a lot
Thanks for the help.

This is what it looks like and here is the part at laptop king

http://www.laptopking.com/partpictur...ategory=boards

I can't say where it is located on your machine, but on the 5680, it is located at the bottom of the motherbaord, beneath the touchpad...it juts straight down, making the motherboard/regulator look like a Large t, with a very wide and fat crossing bar, but a think vertical ....the regulator is the thin vertical

It is a bear to get to, requiring you to remove the entire motherboard

I'm downloading the manual, monday i'll open the notebook and try to see if it's the regulator or not. I keep you informed, thanks a lot for the help

I take the notebook back, i've some doubt. The assistance told me that the problem is the internal supply of DC so i think it's the regulator but how can i be sure?

Unfortunately, unless the item has a physically burnt look, it's probably not possibile to tell.

A lot of hardware PC repairs are based on NGP (known good parts)--you remove a bad part with a known good part, and when it works, you know it was bad.

That was my suspect, let's try to eliminate all the doubt

Boy, I'm leary about doing anything long distance like this.

The fact it started is interesting. It still sounds like power and the voltage regulator...any errors in event viewer?
I dont know if you have tried this already or if it even an option. But just make sure after you upgraded the CPU, that you might need a BIOS update for compatablity issues. If the computer is booting or receiving any power at all I doubt its your regulator. Especially if you can boot it properly with the old CPU in it. Also you might want to check the voltages and compatiblity with the new CPU you purchased. It could have been clocked differently than your MOBO requires.

I know it's hard to help someone without have the notebook in your hands anyway i thanks all for the support even if we don't solve the problem
Where can i check the "event viewer"

@Charles
Sorry for my english i need to explain better the story.
Some month ago i tried to upgrade the old 2,0ghz cpu to 2,8ghz. When i mounted the 2,8 the notebook didn't boot , no hd activity nothing on the lcd only the green led turned on and the cd worked only for 2/3 seconds than it stopped. So i mount back the old 2,0 and the notebook did the boot correctly. I tried the 2,8 on a desktop mb and it worked perfectly, please note that the mb was compatible with the 2,8 but it didn't work. So i left the 2,0 on the notebook , sold the 2,8 , and used the notebook with 2,0 cpu until last week.
Last week the notebook didn't boot with the 2,0 and i didn't try to mount another cpu.
I just told that story about the 2,8 to tell that the notebook showed the same problems with another working cpu.
I hope now i explained better...i'm italian and i'm living in Brazil so i'm just confuesd about languages
