n blighty, we get ripped off, we don't get the fantastic deals you guys over the pond do, so for the equivilant model. We are paying about a third more than you and that includes the pathetic coupons and deals.
So what do you get for $805 US. You get a inspiron 6400/E1505 duo core 1.67Ghz, 512MB of DDR2 533Mhz, 60GB 5400 SATA hard drive, 1280 X 800 15.4 inch wide screen matt finished TFT screen, DVD rewriter.
And what do I think of the machine that I brought for that rip of price? Thank you very much I'll have another one please. Its bloody good and does everything that i want it to do. I only use opensource programs or programs supplied free with the machine so that i dont spend any more money on it. As for playing games on a notebook. You need a desktop to play games on, where the unit is big enough to supply enough cooling air to run a high end graphics card reliably and that you can have an independant monitor of any size or make according to your budget.
I basically use my notebook to save on electricity bills (i.e the power adaptor is only 65W and to be even greener once the battery has charged up I run the laptop on batteries)
The machine is good for photo processing I use another freebee called gimp to do that. most of the time the machine runs silently and is just warm to the touch even after a few hours use, thanks to the intel intergrated graphics card it is very miserly on energy consumption. (definely specify this chip over the discreet gpu's which I understand makes the notebook more hotter and in some cases for users who regularly place the notebook on their laps can BURN THEIR LEGS how extraordinary)
What do I think of the quality of a laptop built down to a price mainly consisting of plastic and not magnesium alloy or titanium. exactly what i would imagine a laptop made of plastic would feel like, solid to the touch as only the irish can make a laptop.
So if this laptop should still be running fine in 5 years time with WindowsXP Home edition, then i will be a very happy man who has got more than his moneys worth.
