Screen all screwy

Everytime I try to run linux, the screen becomes very distorted and all the colours are jumbled up!
I have tried changing the video settings but it doesnt help
when the colours work i cant see where the mouse is!
this is very fustrating and any help would be appreciated.

I should also mention that I am using Ubuntu as you can probably tell by the jumbled red default screen

we're gonna need a bit more info...whats your hardware? do you get that when you try to boot the livecd or did you install and this is what you get when you boot?

in the meantime....if it is the livecd that isn't booting right, try something else in the meantime if you haven't already...if you dont feel like downloading 700 megs, just get damnsmall, its only about 50megs
