It says the memory is 533mhz... Would it make a diference if I upgrade to dual 663 (i think thats how fast it is)?
Also, the hard drive shows as EIDE. I thought all 1210 came with Serial ATA.
Can I also upgrade the notebook with a bluetooth 350 card?

I have a SATA 60gig hard drive and a bluetooth 350 card that I can use with the notebook. Any opinions?

Thanks for all the help

They are SATA drives, it must me a type-o.
You should be able to upgrade to 667 ram (check out my specs) though I would recommended getting it a reseller (newegg.com)
As far as bluetooth, you should be able to place it in there. Mine has it.
It seems like a good deal. :-) You should spend about $160 on 2 gigs of 667. Stay with teh 5400 hdd, there's not that much improvement between that and the 7200.

Sorry, but there's a huge difference between the 5400 and 7200rpm HD's

There is a HUGE performance increase between 5200 and 7200 rpm hard drives. please do some research before saying crap like that ...

He may not be doing anything to where he notices a huge difference.. if your just surfing..using word processors ..in other words light stuff..5400 is fine..if your doing more intensive stuff..like gaming..then you probably want a 7200rpm..

Be nice guys..we're all here to learn

That's what I meant. iF you get a m1210 you know you are not going to do heavy gaming period.
It's for light/medium gaming and for school or portability. 7200 in a 12" laptop with a 7400 NVIDIA chip will not make that much of a dramatic improvement.

that's a great buy. i just picked one up myself! glad to hear that it's SATA!

what synergi said is definitely true about certain things not having that much of a boost. also, what you say about there being a huge performance increase needs a bit of a correction. you have to add something in about the size of a hard drive. something along the lines of "in comparably sized hard drives" or something. i mean, i'm going to have to say a 40gb 7200rpm drive is not going to have "HUGE" performance increases compared to a 160gb 5400rpm drive. so, thus, please pick your words more carefully "before saying crap like that"...

I have to disagree with both of u, I will order a 7200.1 rpm's Hdd because the 5400.2rpm momentus is doin a Bottleneck in my performance. I Tried a 7200 momentus some days ago, did a total Image of my HDD and test it in my lap (a friend of mine just got his 1210 and he wanted windows media center instead of the home edition that dell installed by mistake) anyway... the performance was AMAZING, before do the image we try my HDD in his computer, and the boot was the same time than in mine. we both have the same specs except for the HDD and the proccesor, He got it with a t2500 (@2.0ghz) and I have my Merom t7400. After the image stuff, the boot time in his lap was faster than mine BUt not as fast as his hdd in my laptop Usually with some "midrange" proccesors the speed increase is not noticible but with merom or Core Duo's I think the speed increase is really noticiable

SO is pretty safe to say that the laptop comes with a SATA drive. I do have a 60 gig 7200 SATA, so i rather use that instead of the 80 gig 5400 that comes with the machine.

Now my question, should I bother to upgrade the mem to 667? 2 gigs instead of 1?

I am planning to mostly do web browsing, music and some videos.
I will be doing some gaming but not that much since I already have a XPS 170 at home.

Any suggestions are appreciated

marking the drive as EIDE is not a typo. SATA drives are EIDE drives. The correct nomenclature is Parallel ATA when referencing legacy drives. It's just some people have mistakenly referred to PATA as IDE.

1 gb is enough for your needs, more if u already have a "Gaming rig", 1gb is more than enough.

OK, I see kinda what you are saying now, but I have to say that it is pointless to say EIDE when ALL the notebook drive controllers technically are integrated with the drive. What's important and different is the interface. Perhaps I was too harsh on my initial reply, but I would stand by using IDE/ATA/PATA interchangebly as it is common usage, even if as you say it not 100% correct. When you buy drives, cables, and USB adapters many refer to PATA as IDE.

The main thing to realize is PATA and SATA are interface standards and IDE/EIDE is a drive/controller standard. Since the interface is part of the controller that is why it is so confusing. The way I read your post the first time I thought you meant that SATA = EIDE and PATA /= IDE, which makes no sense to me. Technically SATA and PATA are both IDE/EIDE drives so saying the m1210 comes with a EIDE drive tells one absolutely nothing about the drive or it's interface.

Ok I feel better now, now I can sleep.

SATA = newer/faster drive interface standard
PATA = ATA = older/slower drive interface standard = Referred to as IDE by many

Do a quick google or checkout any of the drive manufacturers websites.

sata drives still go through a pata or sas interface, correct? i wonder if esata is different since it's directly connected to the pcix bus?
