Sony SZ 7400go problems

Thread Starter
when under Winxp, with driver from sony website.
it says it has 128M video memory.
But when today I installed vista 5600 RC1,
it reported that it has 64M dedicate memory and can share maximally 256M system memory.
Window Aero need at least 128M for the aero appearance.

If you run windows vista uprade advisor under xp and vista, you will get different result.
Under xp, it passes the test and under vista, it suggested you to upgrade your video card.

So how many video memory does SZ series have?
And are SZ series suitable for Vista Aero ??

The 7400 go only has 64mb of dedicated and it uses 64mb of SYSTEM ram extra if it needs to. Im not sure why it says you have 256mb. The Dell m1210 has the same exact card but its 256mb...but agian it only has 64mb dedicated and 192mb system ram.

Id think Aero would run just fine on the SZ. Allthough Im not sure how it would work when you have it on Intel graphics.

I can try. The card in the SZ series is a 7400 go "Turbo cache" 128mb. What the whole turbo cache thing is that it does have some dedicated GDR3 memory on the video card (64mb) but it can dynamically use system ram when needed. The 7400 go on the Dell m1210 has the exact same card as the SZ series except they set it to use 256 video ram, which ends up breaking down as 64mb dedicated and 192mb system. Im really betting you can run Aero with out much of a problem. I think the reason it told you to upgrade was because it was only reading the 64mb of video ram because your video card will only use the system ram when it needs to, and sitting runnind 2D apps on desktop wont make it use more than 64mb. The same thing happend to me when I installed WoW, it told me my CPU was too slow to play WoW because I had it sitting at 1GHZ throttling but it really plays WoW at like 60-70 FPS on nearly full settings.

I have no problems with Aero on the SZ28 - Lots of other "issues", pretty much all relating to the still limited Vista driver availability.

I also read that turbo cache depends on how much ram is installed for certain nvidia grfx cards, such that the more system ram you have the more it will allow the grfx card to allocate upto 256mb if u have a full 2 gigs sys ram installed.

Was just about to plop scrill down for one of these but I think Ill wait till december/janurary for the dx10 cards.
