Most of the newer games support widescreen resolutions. Others work if you edit some config files. Not that bad of a problem.

Of course you are going to hate me for saying this because it may mean you have to wait even longer - Hitachi will be getting close to releasing their new 80Gbyte 7200 RPM drives - probably around April.

Now the question is do you wait for the new uber 80GB Hitachi's or put up with the 60 Gbyte underling. The decision is even made worse by the fact that if you want RAID you gotta get two of them...

I'd get the 60 for now and the 80 when it comes out. No need to wait

I'm incurably addicted to my Dell 8600's WUXGA. It's fantastic and a 17" WUXGA will be even better. The earliest forecast I've seen for the 8790 WUXGA is June, but given the delightfully torturous delays that afflict product release dates, I'd be shocked if we saw it this year.

As for gaming, you'd be surprised how many current games support WUXGA, and virtually every future game will support it. Max Payne 2, UT2004, Doom 3, HL2 are just a few of the top games that offer native WUXGA. You oughtta play a game in WUXGA. It's truly amazing!

And so on...

Well, some US or canadian companies seem to feel like "...there is no business like show business...". Of course there is nothing really fancy about their individual assembled computer hardware at all. Just a little bit coloring and minimalistic logo modding, that's all and nothing more. - Oh, I've forgotten to mention that those companies are of course also doing some deeply hard modding on their pricings too, but apperently in the wrong -end user unfriendly- direction. Not to mention the long time assembling and delivering phases and the like...just for some lighting color...

So all in all it's only some sort of fatamorgana like suggeration (aren't they finally all are just cooking with the same sort of water...), meaning a little bit of color here and some stamp logo there and giving their hardware childs some new sounding kiddy game names like "Vood.." or "Alien..." etc. But deep under the colored hood there is nothing spectacular different, same barebone and thus same or similar assembled hardware. So these companies are just living from some potentional wrong imaginations unexperienced buyers may have...

...here the tricky marketing like way is, to sell/suggerate the people such an imagination for $$$$...

It seems weird.
Is it really better than 3:4?
Not sure I can get used to it.

I'm also a gamer. We have a Gateway store in Sunrise Fl. So I walked in just to look at the screens. I looked at a 17" screen, then the 15", and it's such a huge differance. Then I was in the mall, went into Radio shack and they had a 17" laptop playing the Matrix Reloaded wide screen version. A guy and his kid we're watching, I stopped to watch, we blocked the isle way, people had to go around us, it was nice. Visit some local stores, take a look, and you'll be convinced to wait for 17" WUXGA like I'm doing.

Oh, and on the Voodoo laptops, it looks like they're not using Prescott, Northwood only.

True!! As soon as the 17" WUXGA is available, I'm gonna eBay my Inspiron 8600 and make a nice home on my computer desk for that dream notebook!!

What's with offering an M11 in the 8790 with 256mb? When its only being offered by ATI with 128?

Hyper-sonic has thrown their hat into the ring. Their price is actually competitive.

http://www.hypersonic-pc.com/GX7/index.asp

Update: The specs says that the ATi 9700 graphics are upgradable. Anyone know how that is done... about how expensive it is?

Yah, and they list a 4x DVD burner

.
I currently live in Israel and laptops don't have a large market here, even Dell only sells their simple models. Gaming and laptops don't go together here. So the only way is to buy the 15.4" and if I find out that it's too weird for me I'm screwed. I think I'll just wait for AW to get more 16.1"s (BTW did you know that AW in GB has them?) or until Sager gets their warranty updated.
