Sager 56xx LCD Bezel

Hey guys, I have a ProStar D5P (D500P), which is the same as a Sager 56xx (not sure which exact model, actually.)

The problem I'm having is that recently the back (solid) LCD bezel/cover cracked around the hinges, so I can't really open or close the lid without the cracks becoming much, much worse. The screen is hardly being supported right now, so I need to get it replaced ASAP.

ProStar, however want me to send it in (so I get charged for the inspection), then $35 for both LCD bezel parts (although only one needs replacing), and then a $150/hour labor charges.

Sager obviously aren't going to sell me the part because I don't have a Sager laptop, unless I give them a serial number belonging to a Sager.

I'm going to be perfectly honest: I can't *afford* that much money right now.

I know there are some websites that sell the part I need (everyone I've tried seem to be out of stock), and when I found one on eBay (from this forum) I was outbid on the part (made 'em pay $76 for it though!).

So I put to you, please, if you know where I can find this part, or if you're willing to sell me it from a junked laptop you have, please PM me, reply to this post, email me (raliyn@thelaststanding.com).

Thank you.

The specs for the laptop I have:

ProStar D5P (D500P)
15.1" LCD screen.
2.8GHz Intel P4 Processor.
512 (2x 256MB) DDR RAM (I upgraded to 2x 1GB DDR sticks, but I think 2x 256 was the original).
ATi Radeon 9600 Mobility.

That's all I know, the harddrive was changed before I bought it to a 14GB (second hand).

as a temp stop gap, did you try a little dab of superglue on the edges of the cracks

I had the same issue, and supergluing the cracks stopped them cold

I've not tried superglue, no. Is that going to work too well? These cracks too all the way from the side into the hinge-bits (that's my technical phrase for the day: "hinge-bits").

But I shall try.

I had (many people had this problem with this chassis) cracks along the side of lcd case where the two bezels meet, and cracks on the back of the case--best way to describe it is there is a screw mount point in the bezel, and stress from opening the lid, caused the mount point to begin to break away from the lcd cover.

Note--when I say a little, I mean a little...superglue does not "clue the cracks" it MELTS the plastic together. Use a drop at a time, starting at the crack edge, and then moving toward the center.

The end result is not as pretty as you would like, but if you use super glue sparingly, it is not too bad.
