Wireless range help

I just bought a Alienware Area-51M 766 and have a internal Atheros 5001X+ wireless card. The range on the card is very bad (worse then my psp) been trying to improve the range for awhile now. I looked on alienware.com and took my laptop apart and did what they said to fix it and it didnt help. Anyway to fix this problem? I was thinking I might not have the latest drivers but would that affect the range? Any help will be much appreciated.

I downloaded the latest drivers from this site and the range is still bad anyway to fix this or will i just have to buy an external card?

When you say bad can you be a bit more specific? It is a built in card so range wont be as good as an external card but it should be resonable distance. I get a good signal outside in my garden only bout 10 meters and an external brick wall away. Also welcome to NBF
