Mine is Ferrari3400 it has 4 pi firewire port. My WD mybook Harddrive has 6 pin port.

best fit is a 4-to-6 pins firewire cable, if ur WD Mybook has an usb2.0 port, i would use it instead, due to the fact that the usb port from ur laptop can "push" some juice over and faster.
ur laptop 4pins is missing the power out part :-(

cheers ...

Only if the external uses a 2.5" HDD. If it's using one of the desktop 3.5" drives, the USB port can't power it.

Yeap.

Go Firewire I get fast transfer rates for large files 1+gig size then USB 2.0

Firewire can't power an external 3.5" HDD either, as all the 3.5" enclosures I've seen, come with their own powersupply or expect a separate DC power source aside from what firewire provides.

Firewire is a slightly better solution to USB2 as there is less overhead. The fastest external solutions I've seen are eSATA however.

Ladmouse None of the 3.5 half drives are powered by USB or Firewire. I was saying that if you have a 3.5 inch drive your going to have to power it no matter what So get the Firewire and enjoy the higher speed.

Well, I've seen 2.5 GB/min from some eSATA solutions just to give you some perspective...
