Acer laptop beeps twice intermittently

Thread Starter
I have an Acer Travelmate 630 (1.80GHz 512M RAM) with an aftermarket battery which I use almost exclusively on power. I'm running fully patched Windows XP SP2.
The PC beeps loudly twice (short) randomly with short or long intervals in between beep sequences. There is nothing in the event log. There are no failed devices in Device Manager (hidden or otherwise) or BIOS messages and I have the latest R01-C0P Phoenix BIOS.
So far the beeping is the only symptom but it's annoying in the office of course!
Does anyone know what the cause may be?

hi, you could try having a look on this site, it explains all about different beep codes and what the causes are.

hope this helps.

Thanks but not it

Hi ickleangel. Thanks for the reply but this only lists BIOS POST errors and I'd already been through this. This problem is occurring while the system is up and running without any other symptoms. I suspect I may have found the problem though. I have my genuine Acer power supply in use at home but I starting using a HP power supply this week which has the same voltage (19v and 3.1a instead of 3.4amp) at work connected to my docking station. The beeping did not occur at home so it's likely that the system is detecting a slight voltage variation intermittently. I'll investigate further.

Beeps persist

I was wrong about this . The problem persists on both the genuine Acer power supply and the Compaq one at work - note they are both made by Lite-On. Therefore it is not the power supply - unless its both!!

The only way I have of blocking the loud beeps is by inserting headphones in the jack and turning the volume down !!!

I have the same problem with my Acer 5672, it beeps in sets of 6 short fast beeps, every 8 seconds aprox or less :s It's driving me crazy!!!! Anyone???

I had a similar problem with my Ferrari 4005. Loud beeping at startup--but only rarely and there didn't seem to be any way of predicting when it would happen. I called Acer support and they told me to hold down on the power button for 30 seconds so the power is completely cleared. That works but of course it doesn't stop it from happening in the future. It's happened maybe 10 or 12 times over the course of the last 16 months since I got my computer. Happens whether I'm plugged into battery or AC. My impression is that it's most likely to happen when I've shut the computer down using hibernate and then unplugged something that was plugged in before shutdown (like a USB drive) but that may just be a coincidence.

Kinda, but no..

No, mine doesn't beeps when it starts. I never hibernate. It's just a constant beeping whenever she wants to beep. I have absolutely no problems with my laptop, but it beeps and I dunno why! :? It's not the hard disk, it's not a program I installed. It's a program, I guess [a driver IMO] cuz it sounds through the speakers, as software does, not through the internal beeping speaker. And it's a small intermitent beeping, like... mmm... a small, electronic cricket :s I dunno how to put this... I've heard a VERY similar sound in a house alarm when you open/close a door or window with a sensor, and the main panel displays Front Door Open, beep-beep-beep-beep -beep-beep. But my laptop does those 6 little beeps every 4 seconds max!!!!! IT DRIVES ME NUTS!!! [when I'm all jumpy because of school and stuff...]

Anyone??

Accordiing to my manual for 8104, 2 beeps relates back to dimm. Remove and reinsert. If that it not it, main board could be going.
