Which memory sticks for the Aurora m9700

Looks like the Aurora comes with 400mhz DDR memory. So do I stick with the same speed or does 533 or 667 do anything?

Anyways, if I want "gaming" memory, what should I got? Corsair? other?

The m9700 uses DDR memory, not DDR2... So you need DDR 400. DDR2 is clocked higher, but it will not work in the m9700 with the single core turion.

The dual core turion uses a different socket, and will support DDR2 memory up to 667Mhz but that's another story...

You want 200 pin dimms of notebook DDR400. Here is a link to newegg's 200 pin DDR400 notebook memory. These should work. Patriot, crucial and kingston are good brands generally.

I think the m9700 only has two memory slots so two 1G dimms is all you can do. Here is a link to Newegg's 1G dimms of DDR400.

Don't know about laptops, but I've always had very good luck with corsair in my desktops, and corsair valueselect has a very good reputation.

I don't know what memory brand AW is currently using in the m9700.

Thanks Hammerhead,

I see 184 Pin and 200 pin. What are the main differences?
The 184 pin won't fit.

Funny, I just asked a rep and they said they used 184 pin...

Hh Ftw!

Pretty sure it's 200pin as HH said (so the AW rep is wrong)..

In fact, I didn't think DDR400 (PC3200) even came in 184pin guise, so that's news to me.

184 pin is usually for desktop systems, it won't fit in a laptop.

Still wondering what memory to use w/ m9700? HERE!

This thread disserves a bump. For all of us (me included) that need help purchasing the right kind of memory for our m9700 lappies.

Any other suggestions besides what HH posted?

I went on the Crucial web site and opted to use their memory configurator thingy

Click below to see:
http://www.crucial.com/store/MPartsp...&WSPN=CT539723

Crucial guarantees this memory to fit perfectly with Alienware m9700. However, don't be fooled. You can utilize the links HH posted above to find the right type of memory. I am personally going to look for 1GB Dual Channel PC3200 DDR @ 400Mhz with latency = 3

I hope this helps someone, and as always, please post any findings in regards to memory for AW m9700.
Euh the dual channel doesn't work with the Turion....

And the CAS Latency is already CL=3 with the 1Gb memory stick included in my Auroram9700!! But the other "timming" are really bad (for a gaming use sure):

I have problem with F.E.A.R., exactly the same that I had with my desktop computer (with 2 sticks of 1GB PC3200) and the only issue that I've found is to buy good memories like CRUCIAL BALLISTIX memory in DDR500 (I run it like this 3-3-3-6 at 260Mhz) and the little loading timing during game have totally disappeared!!!!

So I would like to do the same thing for my auroram9700 but I don't find the other timmings of the crucial memory posted before, so if somebody knows the timmings of this sticks or of another good brand and where to buy them!!

Thanks a lot and sorry again for my english

P.S.: I am preparing a review for my computer I've received few days ago

I know about the dual channel crap. I wish that wasn't the case. It is CAS 3, but you bring a valid point with timming. Hopefuly someone can post some more info about this. Congrats on your system and I hope to see a review soon

I didn't find more information about this memory stick so I sent a mail to CRUCIAL and they immediatly sent me the manufacturer's specifications :

For the one who wants the complete file : http://membres.lycos.fr/poumpoumk/Al...3200SODIMM.pdf

I don't know if I will buy it for the moment but I think that's a good thing for game like FEAR... what do you think?

I haven't played FEAR. I have a copy sitting around somewhere, but won't be loading it until much later in October, as I have to work on my LSAT and GMAT prep. However, Halo and Company of Heroes at full settings with everything turned ON has ZERO lag and wonderful game play. I am in love
The memory in my signature is working very well. No heat, no unexpected shutdowns, no freezups (blue screens and such). Just amazing!!
