Very nice set-up, shadz. That's probably the best value/performance configuration for the m5550. Looking forward to your review.

Not to hi-jack the OP's thread, but I didn't want to make another M5550 thread since there are quite a few thus far.

I'm currently debating whether to get an Apple Macbook or the M5550. Best bank for the buck goes towards the AW, but it would be nice to have an Apple comptuer for once. Not sure which one I want to get ATM, but C2D is a definite plus along with the GPU and larger screen.

Anyways, the specs I configured are close to the OP, but mine (if I bought it) will come with the 2.16 C2D & 512MB of RAM which I will upgrade to 2GB later on. I initially wanted the 2.33GHz processor, but didn't think the extra $300 would make the performance/ratio seem worth it, so I decided to include the Nvidia GPU as well.

Couple questions on the M5550. 1) How is the battery life with this notebook. Are we looking at 3 - 3.5 hours on normal computing (surfing the web, office apps, video or DVD playback, etc) & 2) I know some people seem to be having having heating issues like the Macbook but is the problem just as serious or no??

Re the MacBook vs the m5550...assume you are talking about a MacBook Pro with the x1600, and not the MacBook with the integrated graphics. The m5550 will be a better gaming solution than either of the Macs (and, I have a MacBook and am an Apple fan, so that's meant to be an objective statement)...

The m5550 will outperfom the Macbook Pro by a long shot. Given that Bootcamp (ability to run Windows) is still in beta. But also take in consideration that the ATI in the macbook pro is underclocked.

And yes, the macbook pro does get very hot. As well as the m5550. However, the macbook pro being Aluminium does feel hotter then the m5550 plastic case. It was my understanding that Apple wanted a very quiet machine so they utilize the metal case as a heatsink and underclock the video card. Now, that could be a rumor but I do remember that my old 15" Titanium Apple didn't get that hot, but was a little noiser.

Rebate Over!!

Well, I hope everyone who wanted a M5550 got in while the getting was good! Except of course they are now offering two screen resolutions for the M5550! They now offer a 1920x1200 screen. That is the resolution I have set on my 24" WideScreen LCD for my desktop!!! I can only imagine how small that is on a 15.4" screen!! But anyway, I just configured the same system, and it would have cost me over $2k!! I must say, I think I got a sweet deal!! Can't wait to get the damn thing!!!!!!

I called them 2 days ago and then again yesterday. It was stuck in phase 4 for so long, I called them and they told me that the DVD player was backordered and that it would be shipped out on the 18th as promised.

I asked them if they could be able to finish it on Monday, and the nice girl said that she truly believes it will be done by then. I'm pretty amazed how fast they are working on it now. She also promised me a RAM upgrade if it doesnt go out by then.

I ordered my m5550 the same day you did. Mine is still stuck on PH 3. I am hoping it will pick up speed pretty soon.

On the brighter side, the two gigs of RAM that I ordered from Newegg showed up. I will be ready when it gets here.

just a note

Just a note for all those who are stuck in phases. If the only checking you are doing is online, you may want to call up and check also. The order status web page is not always up to date. And as there are no more backorders that are even listed on the web site, you probably should call to see what the deal is and to get an actual up to date status.

WOW, yesterday it was in phase 3 when I called, today it's in phase 8!!
