7700 Processor upgrade options

Hello

I have a Area-51m 7700 laptop with a 3ghz Pentium 4 CPU (500 series) and i'm looking to upgrade the chip. What series processors do these laptops support? Would a dual core processor such as this work? http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...uct_uid=102622
Or am I stuck with the 500 and 600 series.
Thanks

You are stuck with the 5 and 6 series. While the dual core chips are socket compatible, the i915g chipset only supports single core cpus. The 6 series is supposed to run quite a bit cooler than the 5 series, so I plan on replacing my 530 with a 630, which should also support Intel Enhanced Speed Step

Replacing the processor voids the AW warranty. If you want one go for the 571, it's exactly like the 670 but with only 1 mb cache. It keeps all the features to, em64t, and all the others.

yeah thats what i was afraid of Would they know if i replaced it, and if something went wrong, just to put the old chip back in? or does it break a seal or something. I'm just about to send my 7700 back to AW anyhow, as the graphics card is seriously overheating, it won't turn on with battery and i think its not grounding properly.. so i'll wait until it gets back anyhow

I THINK you break a seal, not sure, anyone wanna confirm that?

No..... They would not know and I have done it 3 times changeing chips and they never said anything the 2 times my mobo was replaced! Just keep the old chip and replace the way you found it before sending it in!
