Here's a link to the microsoft site. It's open to those who signed up for the beta 2, and it will be available shortly for NEW subscriptions:

[edit: updated download link]

Yay! I'm downloading it now. Don't want to wait til it opens for new subscriptions... Plus I do have a Vista key, (yes it's legit) but I don't know whether it was beta 2 or not, so idk if it will work. Anyway I'm getting my new e1705 laptop soon, and when I get it I will put vista on it, use it for a while, if I like it then it will stay otherwise I'll use my reinstallation cd to clean off vista and put xp back on.

I think you can use any Vista key from Build 5432 forwards (or something like that).

The good news is, it doesn't expire until June 1, 2007. If it's stable enough for you, then you have a nice new OS until next year!

You can use your Keys from BETA 2 Build 5384. You can also order a resource CD from M$. If your using Office 2007 Beta 2 there will be a technical refresh coming very soon.

You can also download the Office Beta from that site as well.

Cheers

I think the word on the microsoft site is one to two weeks. You can still download it now, though, and just wait to install it until you have your key. And IIRC, if you don't have a key, you can use it for 14 days without activation.

Thanx for the info!

Thats what I'm doing (and just after I uninstalled pre-RC1 because I had no key). Just hope I get a key this time...

So what's so great about this version?

I don't really stay updated on Vista Beta versions, cuz i've never tried one out before. I've only heard about them.

Does it contain no bugs? Or just not as many as the previous versions?

And would it be ok to have as a main OS?

RC1 is the version that is feature complete. There will be no more features added to Vista from now on, but there will be bug fixes and tweaking, until it is ready to manufacture.

I am using it right now as my only OS (actually, I'm using PRE-RC1), and although there are definitely some things to watch out for, overall, I'm finding it a pleasure to use. The Beta 2 was really bad... way too many bugs to be usable as a main OS.

"Contain no bugs"
No, but this is the first Release Candidate which means hypothetically it could become the final version of Vista.

Just a little note. There still seems to be an issue with the optical drive disappearing in Pre-RC1, due to some driver problem (mine disappeared just now after a solid 5 days of use). There is a simple registry fix, and I got the drive back, but it is something to be aware of. I am not sure if RC1 still has this problem, as I have yet to install it.
