No sound from xb2000 expansion base.

Thread Starter
I am working on a HP Pavilion dv4000 laptop. I am using the xb2000 expansion base. It has been working fine, but now I cannot get any sound out of it. I've checked all the settings on my laptop and they are fine, in fact when I unplug the laptop from the base the laptop speakers will play the requested sound.

Anybody else with this problem? Any suggestions?

I am having the same problem. I am using the xb2000 expansion base with a zd8000. Did you ever get it resolved? Any info would be helpful. Thanks

I have had this problem for a few months now. Everything was working fine. My xb is connected to a dv8000 and was still under warranty. HP replaced the expansion base with a new one but the problem still exists. They told me that I would have to send my laptop to a service center to have it checked. I haven't had a chance to send it out so they extended my warranty for another year.

If you ask me, I think it's a driver issue even though the unit doesn't require a driver. I even tried reinstalling the OS and still no success. I may try to reinstall again before sending it out.

Any suggestions?

Or its a config issue.

I have a dv9000 w/ the quickdock and it works flawless.
That is it will output digital audio over the optical spdif on the front of my laptop along w/ on th hdmi at the same time, aloong with the coaxial digital audio on the quickdock simultaneously.

I'm having the same problem, but the issue only arose after I'd installed Vista. I have a dv8000 laptop which works fine alone, but when I connect it to my xb2000 base there is no sound (actually, at full volume I can just hear something with my ear right on the speaker).
The expansion base audio worked fine with XP but nothing with Vista installed.
I checked the base with a friend's dv1000 laptop running XP and it worked like a champ.

HP support first claimed I had a hardware fault in my xb2000, but now agree it's software/driver related and are 'looking into it with a team of experts'.
Not sure if it's te same problem you guys have, but I'll post any feedback I get from HP.

i had the same problem. try going into your volume control
-click advanced
-at the bottom where it says "other controls" make sure "digital speaker" is check marked.
-close and try the sound from the coaxial again... if it still doesnt work try checking your wires

Interestingly, I have the opposite problem. I have a dv8000, and the sound only works with the xb2000 expansion base. I usually have desktop speakers plugged into the base, and these work fine. When I unplug them, the xb2000 internal speakers come to life automatically.

The laptop built-in speakers never work, and neither does the laptop headphone port. All the volume settings and device manager look fine, the 'Digital speaker' setting makes no difference to me.

The sound used to work fine for me, and the failure may conicide with the bios update i did 2 weeks ago. Anyone with any resolutions or further progress, I'd be interested.

BTW, I'm not using vista.

I have the same issue. HP says they are "working" on the problem, as of 5/17/07. If anyone has a solution, please post here. Thanks Cap

Well, I ended up sending my laptop back to HP and they found there was problem with my port connection. I guess it wasn't a driver issue since one is not needed for the expansion base. I recommend checking your warranty to see if HP can repair for you.

I got my 'no laptop speaker sound' problem sorted in the end. Fixed it by updating my sound card drivers. Turns out I was downloading drivers for a dv8000 (so says the model number on my product label also), when in fact my machine is closer to a dv8000t. All works with no problems now.

Not sure if you're still having the problem, but I have a solution that works for my set up. Found a new driver from HP's ftp site that did the trick. Try: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp33001-33500/sp33443.exe . Simple install of this driver fixed all my problems.
Just took 8 months - all the calls and chat sessions with HP resulted in no progress at all. Bloody useless!

Good luck

I had the same problem these last few weeks. I discovered that when I went into the Sounds control panel that the new USB Logitech headset I installed had changed my default audio device output. Check that out. I did also install new sound drivers, but I think it was the headset that did it.

i have a dv8235nr and it works fine with the xb2000 base. i have never had such an issue even after installing Windows Vista on the computer itself. when vista first came out HP didnt have sound drivers, i waited 2 weeks and viola there were the sound drivers i had been looking for on hp's tech support site. I bought my base the same day i bought my notebook computer and not sure if that had any difference to do with it since me and my sister havent had any problems with her's either. So I'd check out the sound drivers and the HD audio drivers from hp's tech support website.
