Vista Available for Pre-Order!

Hello everyone,

I just thought I would let you know that Microsoft Windows Vista is now available for pre-order at Amazon.

How exciting! This means Microsoft is finishing up their changes and getting ready to release the new OS into the world! However their expected date is early 2007... Hey, at least they're taking their time!! Don't rush them, maybe they will actually do security right this time!

Nah, I doubt it will be "secure", not until at LEAST the end of 2007, and they will probably continue to patch bugs right up until the next Windows is released (as they are with XP). Did anyone else hear about its brand new tcp/ip stack? That is a mistake in itself... But now I'm getting off the topic. Vista is pretty, it eats memory like you wouldn't believe, and it has search boxes everywhere you look. Not to mention it requires a brand new computer to get off the ground. That's why I'm gonna stick with XP, at least for a while. I have plans to obtain a copy of Vista home premium or ultimate, but maybe I can get it through Dell, or through work if I work for my city government again next summer... (I'm in high school, no working during school year)

Okay, now the link.

Hope this helps anyone that didn't already hear about it.

Pre-order software?!?!?! This is the stupidest thing i've ever seen. It's not like we're in a DVD media crunch right now and there won't be enough copies available. This isn't a CPU were it needs to be assembled. I wouldn't worry about not being able to get your copy when it's released, DVD's are in ample supply to copy Vista on....

amazon has a lot of pre-order crap. it does not mean that microsoft is closer to completing anything. vista has been such a crap in terms of its release. and of course, there will inevitably bugs and security issues.

Agreed, I will be keeping XP too. Not to mention, I'm not about to pay for a brand new OS that will be POUNDED by hackers when it's finally released into the real world (instead of a small group of devs). And I'm sure all the hackers already found holes but didn't share them with the world. I'm sure they are waiting for the right moment, the moment when nearly everyone has upgraded to Vista, and then they will strike.

At least, if I was a hacker with a secret about Vista, that's what I would do... But yeah, prices + bugs = stick with XP, at least for a while.

Oh and if anyone wants to know of one part of Vista that will surely have plenty of bugs and exploits to continue to iron out past its release, look at its TCP/IP stack... It's brand new, written by those "great" Microsoft programmers. And when it comes to security, new = bad. New means unknown, untested, un-hammered-upon-by-malicious-hackers. For more info, listen to or read the transcript of the podcast Security Now, episode 51: http://www.grc.com/securitynow.htm#51. Don't worry, it isn't too hard to understand even for computer novices, and it is a VERY interesting podcast, to novices and experts alike. I consider myself advanced/expert when it comes to Windows and general computer knowledge, and I listen to the podcast every week. I'm sure Security Now will have plenty more things to discuss after Vista comes out.
