my avent laptop came with a mobile amd sempron 2800+ and not knowing very much about upgrading i bought a mobile amd athlon 64 3400 processor as an upgrade, i knew enough to make sure it would fit my 754 socket. anyway the problem is when i put it in and booted it up it loaded in to windows then went BSOD on me, when i rebooted it it would show the first bios screen (one showing drives and ram and cpu speed) then it would turn off. the fan sounds like it is in use a lot more which leads me to think its a overheating issue, if this is the case is there anything i can do to get the new processor to run

the sempron ran at 1.6, the new athlon 64 runs a 2.2 i would accept underclocking it to around 2.0 if this would solve it but i dont have a clue about any of that so this could be a ridiculus suggestion
