Congrats to this great rig! However I doubt about 9/11 date - since mine was originally 9/4 and still is stuck in pre-production! Let us know if you have more luck with your !

nice specs. i have a question though why did you choose the area-51 m5750 and not the aurora m9700? in other words wwhich is the better performer? and why? also what's reliability like in alienware laptops and is their support good (in case anything goes wrong)? i ask because i am checking out alienware and dell and hp to decide who i should buy a laptop from...

For me the 3D perfomace of m5750 is sufficient. I won't be playing games 90% of time. This compromise implies some money savings vs. m9700 that I can use for accessories. I love the design , it is more portable than m9700, Core2Duo proc gives the points for multimedia performance, 1440x900 resolution for running apps and games in native resolution in which I dont need to stress my eyes ! Was also considering Dell e1750 with 7900GS for which I had employee discount (I would get it for about $200 cheaper than m5750 in similar config only with much better graphics in Dell). This time I went for more expensive and less performing solution just to please myself with AlienWare! The brand makes the difference. Time will show whether I made the right choice .

There is a couple reasons. 1) Tad bit cheaper 2) There is a duo on the m5750 which is a lot cooler and does not get as warm as the single prossesors. (personal experiance) 3) The specs on the m5750 is how I really wanted a laptop. 4) Also, the duo, with my exp. seems a lot more stable then the rest. Also, so far they are doing great, I went ahead and e-mailed them asking the progress on my laptop and they say "You will get a responce whithin' 72 hours" and it took only about 20 hours. They told me everything about it, if they are having any issues, any detail that I would need, they gave it to me. Also, on the dark side, the Est. shipping date.. well... throw that out of the picture because as you can see, most of the laptops take longer that they say it would, BUT they will let you know if it does. (Ex: look at the second post) For the dell computers... I can too get a discount off of them but EVERY dell that I came accross, I ALWAYS have problems with them!! The real result will be when I get it!! And I will post benchmark results and my raitings! I hope that helped you out if not, dont hesitate to ask!

Congrats to the new m5750 owners! Can't wait to see your pics and benchmarks.

Great Thread! I ahve been looking at the dells and the HP DV8000T. I really want the dual HDD but the hp only has a 7600 in it. The dell has a 7900gs but single drive.

Now then the AW I want Like yours except 1gb ram and a single tuner with media center edition.

My question is how will the X1800 stack up against a 7900?

Do I have the option of dual HDD w/o raid?

I really wanted a dock! I had one with my HP and I love it! My Toshiba doesn't and I hate it! AW does not have a dock correct?

Lastly I would prefer dual drives with nice graphics and a dock.

I just found the AW 5750 and its almost perfect! Anyhelp?

To all you guys with a AW now how prtable is the 17" It will be going with me everwhere I go tossed in the back of the car etc. Will it be sturdy enough? Or should I start looking at the 15"?

Congrats Rellik29 that is a fine laptop I hope you post more info about it! Sorry if im asking to much in your thread say the word and I collect and organize my thoughts and repost. Again congrats on a fine system!

the x1800 is an excellent card, but the 7900GS is still a better card if gaming is a big priority then the 7900GS is the way to go.

people who like the 5750 are mostly partial gamers and full time multi-taskers so the duel core 2 is a huge plus + minimal heat = more battery life

yes, you do not have to have raid set up, you can call up their sales staff n request to have your rig built w/ out raid.

You got to find a happy median...but I don't believe there is such a laptop on the market w/ all those

well I can honestly say that there is no AW owner that I know of, that would just "toss their" prized possession in the back of the car =P...but yeah it's pretty portable...

maybe you should look into the m5550? it's a 15.4 w/ a decent GPU and duel core 2 cpu as well...

The reason why many of us chose the 5750 is b/c of the size and weight, it's a great compromise for the power to weight ratio (great 17" screen, w/ minimal weight, above average gpu, and great duel core 2 cpu)

To be honest with the ATI vs nVidia cards, I have always had a problem with a nVidia card... maybe it is just me...

Also, my X-box, the first one, uses the nVidia graphics card and I had to buy ANOTHER one because that one took a dump on me... I also bought a nVidia card for my custom computer at home and fresh out of the box, it had so many missing pixels on the screen it was not even funny and always crashed with the settings ALL THE WAY LOW on JUST CS ONE! so I went ahead and got it replaced and they gave me an upgraded one, which was cool, but that one would always crash and give me a crit. error...

I did a total swipe with my computer, rebuilt it just incase, and same things...

I got my money back and went with a ATI card, and it runs FEAR at full with out any lag, and no problem AT ALL.

I have had my ATI for over... I think 4 years, with out a problem then upgraded to a X850 XT card and I LOVE IT!

And the new X-Box 360 is runing off of a ATI graphics card and so far I have not had a problem with the graphics, locking up or overheating ::knock on wood:: Which is crappy, because Halo 2 is optimized for the nVidia card so that is why it lags on the 'powerful' 360.

there is one big advantage the ATi has over nVidia is that it can run Antialiasing and Pixel shader at the same time........unlike the nVidia's.

Thanks for all the info! I dont really toss it in my car its in my bag and set on the rear floor boards. It never really gets abused. But it does get transported everyday to work and sites. Also with no dock will the usb ports be strong enough to be pluged and unplugged numerous times daily? I also have 2 desk in the house it will be moved between. 4 counting couch time and etc. One desk for work another for gaming. So printers and speakers wheels keyboard/mouse all day long.

Another big thing for me is its ability for a kvm. I hae two flavors:
PS2 with a usb adaptor
USB with audio

My HP can use the PS2 with adaptor fine but my Toshiba gets stuck with the usb version.

Has anyone used this with a KVM of anytype with sucess?

On that note will he vga out be strong enough to handle kvm duties?

I know what everyone is thinking.. Get a bus. notebook like a hp or dell that has a dock. Well I would If I didnt have a addiction to rFactor and everything HL, HL2 Mostly DOD and DOD Source. From what I have heard a quadro card isnt great for gaming.

Thanks again for all the info!

Also ordered a m5750 (Sep 3) with an "estimated" shipping date of Sep 11th. Got payment confirmation email Sep 4, with "Phase 3" status and have been at that point since then. Went with the m5750 for the screen size and Intel processor; my current most used system is a Dell 600m with a 14.1" screen (1400x1020) and a Compaq Presario R5000 (AMD powered) with a 15.4" wide-screen (back up system). I wanted the dual hard drives and the Core 2 Duo 2.33 processor - so choices were limited. I look forward to placing the 600m in "back-up" status and passing the Compaq on to some young relatives. Systems configured now are indicating Sep 25 shipping dates (which is about when I realistically expect mine). Good luck with your system!

what do the phases refer to?

When you order your Alienware laptop or pc the product can be tracked based on where it is in the manufacturing process by going to the Alienware site and clicking on order status. Each phase is supposed to give u an idea of where your system is before shipping; did my payment clear, are they just begining to manufacture or did they finish, quality control, packaging and shipping. Although Alienware tries to be accurate with the representation of phases on their website, it is strongly recommended to call AW and ask them where you really stand in the phases game. Hope this helps
