Alienware vs. Dell - Page 2

I called an Alienware rep. today, and asked a few questions.
1. The Sentia m3450 does not have a wifi on-off button, (just like the Dell e1405).
2. Alienware does not offer a higher capacity battery for the Sentia m3450 (unlike the Dell's 6 or 9 cell's).
3. With normal use the Sentia m3450's battery last only 2 to 2.5 hrs, (sometimes 3hrs), but if anyone has the Sentia m3450, could you please let me know if this is true.

I also went to a little Dell Computer booth at a shopping mall near my house today, and took a close look at e1405.......I like it! I found it to be lighter than it looks. And the screen resolution, and sound were great. A good lay-out and clean design. I'm starting to lean more towards the Dell.....can you tell?

honestly I would never buy a Dell so the Alienware choice is obvious but Alienware tries to get you buy all kinds of bundles just like Dell another thing is neither Dell or Alienware make their own laptops they buy them from Clevo

if you want a gaming laptop go with a Sager they have been around since 1985 and also buy from Clevo but their prices are usually considerably better than Dell and Alienware despite all 3 companies buying from Clevo and they don't try and bundle all kinds of stuff you can even get your laptop without an OS and decide everything you want on it

if you want a non gaming laptop go with someone who makes their own laptops either buy from straight from Clevo or buy from a company that doesn't buy from Clevo like Asus

I'd go with the Dell because the alienware only comes with 128mb unless you upgrade to the 7600go. You also get MCE instead of XP home. The only thing crappy about the Dell is when you have to pay for tax.

well right now i have the dell E1405 but i just orderd an alienware m9700. dell is a very fast notebook and has a nice clear screen but i wouldn't suggest it on gaming. id go with the alienware sentia m3450 because if u got the dell, youd get tired of it after a while and to me an alienware is a much better notebook.

I agree, but if you're in a situation where it would get easily stolen (bad neighbourhoods, non threatening personal appearance, whatever the case may be) then the lower profile one (the Dell) attracts less attention. Just another thing to keep in mind.

You gotta hand it to Dell, they engineer their own laptops unlike alienware which uses standard chassis from arima and clevo and probably some others. Plus you can get the 4year next day service at home. Nobody can compete with that. Alienware's supply chain takes too much time to get the parts to build their laptops, I have seen posts here that put their build and possibly repair times into the months.

I'm posting this from a 3450 right now. There IS a wifi on/off button, its Fn+F11. The battery life is around 2-2.5 hours from what I've experianced so far.

I can't agree with you Brother, unfortunately not even Falcon NW is a tier 1 one company which means they don't design their own laptops nor do they have the reputation with vendors like Nvidia, Intel etc to get parts shipped when they need them. Thats why thier build and repair time is horrendous when compared to Dell. I have been there so I know.

Do yourself a favor and check the forums, nothing is worse then being without your computer for an extended period of time.
With Dell they come to your house the next business day to repair it, how can you beat that...

Actually, now that I think about it, since Alienware is owned by Dell, Alienware might be able to use Dell's tier 1 reputation to get better vendor support. This could really help Alienware in some very positive ways. I know Dell is keeping Alienware seperate for now but there might be some influence in the supplier chain that Alienware benefits from...

We are already starting to see this in the amount of time it takes AW to release new products...ie the Core 2 Duo machines.

@Brother Esau, how did AW rob all of the components from your 7700?
First of all, it has been confirmed that the core 2 duos DO NOT run well on 533mhz memory, so my pick is alienware because of the 667mhz memory. Oh, and that the dell running at 8hrs must be complete bullshit, even ultra-low wattage processors in the VAIO notebooks have trouble catching up to 8hrs.
