i've got a vaio sz, and i cant figure out why the usb mouse wont install. it definately works because the optical light on it turns on. i've tried restarting and everything but still nothing. in the devide manager, its under other devices as ps2+usb mouse, with the yellow question mark.

You may have to visit the site of your mouse's manufacturer to download the appropriate drivers. I recently purchased a Microsoft optical notebook mouse and had the same problem. Strangely, Windows XP Home didn't automatically recognize it either.

The yellow exclamation point suggest that there is a conflict or driver issue.

By your description something doesn't quite sound right. PS2+usb??? That is odd. Actually it should not be listed under "other devices" but under mice. How are you connecting the mouse through a PS2 port or USB?

Uninstall that driver listed under other devices and reboot. Re-read your mouse documentation since some require you to install software first. If your mouse uses a USB dongle then you should not need drivers and Windows should see the device. Use the supplied software if your mosue has extra features that you want to use.

Hope this helps

its connected to the usb port on my laptop. on the box it doesnt say dongle, but it says it works with windows. i tried restarting it and connecting it but i cant figure out why its under other devices and not mice. there is no software with the box, and the brand, "rhinotronix" is lame, it doesnt have drivers or support on its site..

Based on what I saw on their website it sounds as though this mouse is just plug an play.

When you plug the mouse in does Windows provide any error messages other than the exclamation point in device manager?

Steps:

1.Uninstall the old drivers

2.Reboot the computer

3.Install the new mouse driver

4.Reboot again

5.If its not working you have a broken mouse or usb port

If you could get a usb to ps2 converter (a type of dongle) it might start working, assuming you have a ps2 port.

Also you could try updating the drivers to logitech's and see if it picks it up.

Do you have drivers for this new mouse or just assuming xp should install them automatically? If you don't have them then dl from ms's site and install after uninstalling/removing the current mouse the system thinks it is seeing.
