HP expresscard remote problems

Hey I didn't get my remote with the original laptop shipment, so they shipped it later by itself. It came after I did a fresh install on my dv5000t, but now I can't get it to work. I put the battery in, aimed it at the bottom left of the notebook, but it didn't do anything.

The 2 sentence "manual" that came with it isn't much help, and neither is HP's website.

Now, when I look at device manager, I CANNOT see anything relating to infrared, which seems to be a good place to look to solve the problem. Can naybody help?

Any software/driver recomedations to fix this? I'm looking @ microsoft now.

Okay now when I'm in device manager there is an "Unkown Device" (with yellow exclamation mark) under "Human Interface Devices". It lists the driver as not being installed, but when I try to update the driver it gives me an error message for installing "HID Class".

I am almost sure that this is the infrared device, because it is a human interface device, and all my USB ports (the only other HIDs to my knowledge) are listed properly.

Does anybody know how to fix this issue? I've already downloaded tons of updates but it still doesn't work. I need the damn drivers I think.

It seems like the problem is in the BIOS. I can't find anything related to infrared on there. I copied down my mobo # and other computer info, and I guess I need to look for a bios update that will give me infrared support or something....

The only other possibility is that this laptop mysteriously shipped WITHOUT an infrared port, which I find kind of unlikely since the little tinted screen with power/battery/disc indicators is present on the bottom left of my laptop speakers, as well about 1cm of space that's open, which I assume is the location of the IR port.

Does anyone have advice? Anyone ever added infrared support to a BIOS before?
