Docking Station..

Thread Starter
I am lookin' for a good docking station for my I9300 17" laptop.

Just wondering what all do you guys use, if you could provide some pictures and maybe a specs list of what all it can do.

I'm hopin to find one that I can just set my laptop in, maybe provide some extra cooling, USB ports and power adapter plugin.

I often take my laptop to the living room with me to watch TV and surf the net. I have about 6 things plugged into my laptop when it's on its desk, so having to unplug all that just to bring it to the living room and bring it back and locating all the plugs and plugging it all back in gets old.

Anything that will require me to just slip in and lock it or something would be great!

This is about as good a dock as I have seen for the 9300:

Are you kidding me, that dock is definetely not ideal for him. He says he has 6 things plugged into his laptop now, so that dock would defeat his purpose.

I don't know if this is compatible with the 9300 but I don't know why it wouldn't be, regardless of it not being listed on the compatibility list. I highly recommend you get the D/DOCK. It will offer you all the ports you'll need. Such as:

1 x Serial, 1 x Parallel, 4 x USB, 2 x PS/2, 1 x PCI Slot, 1 x VGA, 1 x DVI, 1 x S-Video, 1 x RJ-45 (10/100/1000 Ethernet), 1 x RJ-11, 1 x Audio Line-out, 1 x Digital Audio (S/PDIF), 1 x D/Bay Connector, 1 x Internal Media Bay and 10/100/1000mbps Ethernet port.

It also has a security slot on it as well as an internal 130 watt power supply. So you don't need to use your brick anymore. I find this dock to be perfect expect for the fact that it doesn't have a firewire port on it.

Keep in mind that this thing is huge though. A lot bigger than the picture seems to be. You have to dedicate
6.3" x 12.28" x 2.76" of desk real estate for it, so make sure that it fits.

This dock runs for $300+ from Dell but I found it on eBay NEW for $89. You can also get it from the same guy REFURBISHED ones for $59. Check it out:

I got a NEW one from him and this thing is flawless.

The 9300 will not work with a traditional docking station like the one posted above on ebay because it's not configured for it.

I think Kensington makes a stand/dock that will work.

Read before you post. That D/dock will not work with a 9300. It really depends on what 6 devices he has attached the kensington listed above has 5.1 audio, 4 USB and network connector. This dock is about the best option out there for a 9300.

I know that the 9300 wasn't listed in the compatibility list of the D/Dock and so I have stated that. However, I assumed that the 9300 was indeed compatible thinking that the chassis of the system was identical, like the M1710 and the M90.

I thought the 9300 used the same chasis as the XPS Gen2 and the M170. My XPS Gen2 does not have the docking connector on the base which my friends M1710 does.
The docking connector was a new addition to the M1710 and only because the M90 is the same system in a different shell. No other Inspiron other than the M1710 will work with the DPort or DDock.

I use a Kensington stand and replicator, and I couldn't survive without it. Have one at work and one at home. You just need to plug in laptops power and 1 USB cable, and it connects sound, network, parallel and USB. Plus it raises the laptop closer to eyeball height. And it keeps the keyboard dust free.

O, and the most important feature of all - it has a document clip so you can keep notes handy while you type
