IF anything I might bump up the m5550 video card to the nvidia go 6600 or 7600. If u can get over 2.5 hrs on the m9700 I will be more than happy! Do u thing the single nvidia 7900 can achieve this with basic web browsing?

I think Kazkek said his single card setup did get to 2.5 hours on battery just browsing. It's in his review I believe... I ran mine on battery with both cards going, browsing the web on wireless and after an hour and a half it showed 40% battery left, but I don't tend to rely on battery meters in laptops...

I'll be testing it this weekend for my review, but it's taking longer than I'd hoped to get the information together...

I've got BF2 loaded now, and played a little the other day and it smoked my desktop. I'll try it on a single card and see how it does at 1920 x 1200...

Scaling the monitor down for games isn't bad at all really, but for text it take s a little getting used to. I just leave it at 1920 x 1200 now and the text is small on most websites but it's easily readable.

2 questions about my new m9700,

Are there suppose to be 2 very tiny holes near the screen hinge and multimedia buttons (also near the logo)

Are the speakers suppose to sound tinny and rattle like at near full volume?
Maybe its your subwoofer doing the rattle. Another guy posted about that somewhere else. For only 2 speakers in it, it probably won't give out the greatest sound. My old 7700 had 5 speakers and it was sweet but it was a brick

You can adjust the speakers through the equalizer in the sound settings. It helps, but the speakers could be better. They're the best I've heard on a laptop but they're not great... I've never heard a 7700. My old 5500 has good sound but doesn't get near as loud. Headphones sound great btw...

I've found it sounds fine in games, but mp3 playback can overload the speakers. Tweaking the equalizer helps a lot.

There is also an equalizer in windows media player. Right click on the upper border, click view, then click view enhancements. A new box will open in WMP, and you can cycle through several different features including an equalizer. There are several presets and they help mp3's a lot. I have mine set on rock preset.

Maybe Hammerhead knows, hey do you what kind of gadget I would need to hook up to my vcr from the laptop to capture video? There are a few tapes I would like to put on my laptop and maybe later convert to dvd before they get to worn out

I found this, what do you guys think?

No matter how hard you try too fix it the speakers will always sound like shit.

At full blast if the system isnt on a flat surface too send out vibrations you'll hear the plastic rattle. Its annyoing and sucks but what can you do?

Probablly the best speakers I ever heard on a laptop goes too HP and there nice large frontal area.

Yeah i agree HP laptops that i've used have some really nice speakers

Just got done playing BF2 for a couple hours with only the single card enabled. 1600 x 1200 with all high settings except for AA, and it played flawlessly.

I think the single card solution is a good option for those trying to save money.

Plays CSS, and BF2 at high res, high settings perfectly. I'll try F.E.A.R. next.

You should just be able to put the output of the vcr directly into the coaxial connector on the m9700 and record.

That will bypass the tv tuner won't it? You shouldn't need anything like that, the tv tuner does that for you. Not sure what file type the recordings are in though... I don't have the adapter yet.

I got them sounding alright, but if you turn them up full they will rattle...

I was disappointed in the sound, especially since all the reviews say it's got above average sound for a laptop. That still may be true but I was hoping for a little more depth in the bass department.

They sound fine in games and movies for me, it's the mp3's that sound like you're listening to a clock radio...

Even after EQ settings were modified?

I could be wrong, but I think one of the holes is a built-in microphone. I was testing the webcam ability in AIM the other day with my old laptop only a few feet away and I could hear my voice being transmitted. It seemed to get louder the closer I put my mouth to those holes, so I'm almost kinda pretty sure...

Eh? Cant really listen too anything on high with my system. even tho our systems are pretty same(besides for the fact that you have SLi you bastard!) i'm sure the speakers are the same too.

I really would like too know why alien even put that junk ass computer beep crap speaker on these things. If it wasnt for that it would just be awesome. And FYI when i'm playing MP3 it doesnt soudn that bad all. Its that ****ing subwoofer that buzz's and rattles the plastic on the system. I really hope someone finds away too disable that junk.
