5720 dvd troubles

Very recently (just this week) I've been getting some strange problems with my dvd drive. Anytime I'm using it I get very high cpu useage and I can't get dvds to play properly without stuttering anymore. I messed around with tons of codecs, so that is definitely not the problem, especially since it happens even when I'm just copying a file over. Could the dvd drive be failing or possibly my bus? Any help would be much appreciated. This is the original dvd drive with lightscribe.

I finally found what the problem was and fixed it. Windows XP slipped my drive into PIO mode while I wasn't looking (XP sometimes does this if you put a bad disc in the drive and let it try to read it...). To get it to go back to DMA I had to delete a few registry keys so that windows would properly redetect the drive the next time I booted. Worked like a charm!

Here's the site with the keys:

If you can, could you please also post this in the Tech Support area ? People who comes looking for help usually check there and this might help them a lot.

Or maybe a moderator could please move this thread there?
