Dell E1505. Opinions From Owners.

im looking to move into a new laptop before my dell 5150 dies on me and i was looking at the E1505 on dells website. ive had great luck with my 5150 for the 4 yrs ive had it, so im wondering if the E1505 will be a good system to buy as my next laptop. my 5150 was basically a net comp, i used it for mspaint, listening to music, general internet surfing as well as chat, email, etc. i dont intend to play any games on it and the majority of its life will be spend on the stand next to my bed so i can use it comfortable. so this goes out to the owners of the E1505.... whats your honest opinion of the comp and is it worth the price? (just shy of $1100 as i configured it on the site) thanks to all who reply

I love it... The screen is AWESOME... It's pretty damn durable, I've dropped it a few times with nothing breaking. It's pretty damn fast for the price, the speakers are so/so. The X1400 is sufficient for anyone that isn't a hardcore gamer. You can play pretty much every game out on medium settings. Media Center is cool of course. Some people aren't Dell fans. But I think for the average user the price and performance are hard to beat.

get it, i's a great laptop, and the features are great! (Me and my wife both have one, except mine has the x1400 for occasional gaming of course!) HL2 runs great and max settings and the newly acquired (j/k free download) F.E.A.R. combat runs on minimal/medium settings (better than nothing though). Price can't be beat, and the design is excellent. It's a design that won't seem to "get old" for a few years. Can you check one out at a Dell Kiosk near you?

im proly gonna sell my alienware if i get it. i dont use it very much so i figure i can get like 1000 for it or something and put it towards getting the best options on my E1505. how hot does it get? it will be on a laptop cooler since its replacing my current comp. any cons to the comp that youve seen so far?

I like it, Ive had tons of Dell laptops, the E1505 is a great machine. Get the X1400 and youll have a great all around laptop. As far as cons, I dont have any, its a good bang for the buck, good luck!

I have the 6400 and am very happy with it. The only drawback is that the x1400 is not a great top-end video card option. It would have been great if the x1600 could be offered as an option.

i dont really need a top end video card since it will be used for light gaming, but im gonna get the best card they offer with the laptop. the offer the x1400 and the geforce go 7300. both 256mb, but which is better? my gaming will proly be WoW, call of duty, half life 2, counterstrike, and some racing games. the desktop in the house runs hl2 at 1024x768 w/ medium settings and it looks good. can the E1505 run FPS's at decent frame rates and the options cranked up?

From what I've heard, get the X1400. It's the better card, and cheaper too

Had mine a little over a week now and love it!!! Dell sent it as a warranty replacement for my Dead 8600 and it blows it away!!!! Make sure you get the WSXGA+ Ultra Sharp True Life Screen as well as the X1400, also unless dell offers it as a promo get the least amount of RAM and purchase 2 Gig to give your X1400 Room to breath since it shares the system Memory.... Love mine!!!!!

Specs: E1505 T2400 1.83 Dual Core
X1400 256Mb
15.4 WSXGA+ True Life Ultra Sharp
80Gig Hd
8X DVDR+/-R Dual Sony
3245 Wireless
2Gig DDR2 667 Kingston

You going to get rid of your Alienware? bloody hell damn I wished i lived in America and for a $1000 bucks. sister it sounds like you want to downgrade keep the bloody alienware or better still get another (You are still getting a Dell anyway, since they own the company)Araaaagh!

I love my 6400 (same as E1505). The wireless range is respectable. Unless you plan on keeping it plugged into ac all the time, get the 9 cell battery. Also, the x1400 card upgrade is well worht it. I do a little gaming also, and it works well. Don't waste your money on the soundblaster audigy upgrade. (useless) You may also want to pay the extra for the xp media center edition AND restore disc. I also have a tv tuner and remote with mine. (Very usefull for me). Oh, yeah, almost forgot, get at least the XGA Truelife display. If you can afford it, go with the SXGA. If not, the XGA will suffice. You should also go with 1gig Ram and the 80 gig harddrive minimum. You won't be sorry, I know I'm not. Good Luck.

my alienware is the biggest piece of shit ive ever owned. i rather have the dell. thanks for the advice on the parts too, i wanna get xp pro w/ the cd since i have no use for media center edition.

I just received mine today...it's the wife's actually....

We ended up getting a deal with 2gb memory, X1400 card but we left the 6 cell battery...I regret not getting the 9 cell as it doesn't take anymore space, just more weight (although it's already pretty heavy to be honest!)...
The battery life seems like total crap...I'm used to my dell 700m with extended battery and was getting about 4 hours...now with everything running I am down to about 1.5 hours which is garbage...oh well...

Cheers,

LIP

Even with just the 6 cell battery, you should get a good 3 hours of battery or so if not more. I really like my E1505 quite a bit. Definitely a great upgrade up from my old I4150. I have had a few quirks with dell giving me busted dvd drives, but those have all been replaced quickly and smoothly. It's a tad larger than I had expected it to be, but imho its not all too heavy and is still very portable. The soundblaster upgrade is pretty worthless I admit as it really doesn't make things any better. I find that the x1400 is more than sufficient for casual gaming and I can run most recent games prefectly fine, albeit at reduced settings which is fine to me. Recently, I've been playing Company of Heroes on the laptop just fine. It won't have any trouble running HL2 or WoW. Wireless works just fine for me. I haven't thorougly tested my router, but it seems to maintain a good strong signal across my house (small house though).
