I arrived at the office a couple of days ago and could hear her from the front door. Cutting a long story short she got a manager who offered to ship a fully loaded core 2 duo Area51 instead. Our IT guy suggested that I get that as it wouldn;t be so heavy/run as hot and that the core 2 duo chip would be faster than the Athalon. I was about to do that when they rang back and said that they had managed to locate a video card for the 7700 and I culd have the choice of which system to have. I went on the "general" part of the site and asked advice - three out of three responses said I should stick with the 7700. I have taken their advice. So - my assistant calls back and finds out that it's not in production yet becuase the back-pack is back-ordered. At this point I used some not very nice words and basically suggested that the back-pack could go forth and multiply. So hopefully it's on its way tomorrow and even more hopefully I made the right choice by sticking to the m7700. My only concerns are the weight and heat issues that I have heard about. I also am a little concerned that the thickness may make it difficult to use for typing. Especially hopeful that I'll be able to find out soon.
Yes, I got the same backpack problem.. I told them to shove it to and mentioned a few of my own choice words about that process. I don't understand why they don't ship the backpack out of the place they order them from or have some other sort of delivery mechanism for the backpack, after all -- The Backpack Comes In A Seperate Box -- if you're listening, Alienware.... ok, I'm done venting. I got an est delivery date of 10/10 from someone of whose primary language is not English. Not happy about that either... Language barriers on top of an ordering issue does not make me very secure in the future of calls to AW reps.

Its here !!!!!!!

Well - my m7700 arrived this afternoon. I avoided opening it in the office (except to check that everything was there). I haven't twitched so much since last time I quit smoking

At the end Alienware were good - I guess they didn't want to deal with my assistant shouting at them any more.

Ironically enough the backpack arrived too - go figure

So here I am prepping my old system (Tecra 9100) moving all my data files and music system etc. Then it's firing up time.

I just love setting up new systems - joy joy joy

I'll send benchmarks when I run them

Thanks to all on this board for your support and advice.
