DV2000 Battery Life?

Well I just recently bought this notebook and I've been quite satisfied with it so far. However, when I first bought it I was charging and using the notebook on the first charge. Does this effect the battery life in anyway at all? I'm just curious because I bought the extended warrenty for the laptop but it doesn't cover the battery . Any help would do and I'm new to the boards also.

PS I also charged it when it was at 50%. Would it effect the battery as well? It's been charged twice. I've only been using it without the AC adapter for about a 1h 30mins to a 1h 45mins and I'm already at 35% remaining. Any help would do!!!!

dlo - If you search around the 'net, you will find alot of differing opinions on how to extend battery life. Since all newer batteries have gone to Lithium-Ion it is my understanding that it does not really matter how/when you charge them. The battery is an expendable item and it will fail, sooner or later, probably about the 2 year mark would be my guess.

As for the time you can spend on battery, it really depends on what you are doing. Some things that eat up juice faster are: { Bright LCD screen, heavy CPU usage, DVD/CD use, WLAN, BlueTooth }

Personally, just turning off Bluetooth seems to give me another 15 minutes.

Thanks for the info. I've looked at the Battery guide here and it helps a bit.

I also have my LCD at a pretty dim setting. Well it's bright enough for me to see, but also IMHO not too bright for it to be eating too much power.

Thanks for the tips though. I've tried searching the net and I've heard the major con for this notebook is the battery life. I'm a student and I don't really have the money to buy a new 12 cell battery right now. I guess I'm just going to have to suck it up for now. Thanks for the reply though Amiga it's deeply appreciated.

i think the dv2000t's battery life isn't TOO good, but it is better than a lot of laptops back then. I have the 12 cell and I can safely say it will hit past the 3 hour mark if u have the LCD down and undervolted it.

When you say undervolted what do you mean? I'm quite new to the laptop phase. Any help will be appreciated.

go google Notebook Hardware Control

I used that software to undervolt the cpu so it uses less power (which will mean less heat/better battery life)

Li-ion batteries, the care of.

They don't like deep discharge cycles.

I got problem....if I leave my dv2000 on,not working with it, with no device working(no wireless,medium brightness,no DVD,no svreen saver,no touch pad use) it stays 1h40 minutes...(it's a 6 cell)...is it normal?their support representative said it should last between 4-5 hours,so I should consider buying a new battery,is she just trying to make me buy a new battery?or is it(1:40) normal?it's only 4-5months old

plz reply...
thanks...

Max with a 6-cell will be close to 2:30 if you're lucky. 4-5 hours is where a 12-cell typically lasts.

Is that for any laptop out there or for dv2000 specificly? I was told that 12-cell should last a bit longer than 4-5 hours

so it means I'm not lucky enough and should buy anew battery?
how bigger and heavier are the 12 cell ones?won't they make these tiny machines ,hefty and out of shape?
I know they are more practical, but more expensive too

wooohooo...I just used the easy gimmik you told me,I let the battery drain and recharge for 3 times...it used to last 1:35 no device attached now it's 2:20 with wireless on!!!!!!!
THANK YOU GUYS...
i'M THE HAPPIEST MAN ON EARTH NOW!!!

I've always found that it takes a few to several full charge cycles for a lithium ion battery to get to its full potential. I notice it alot with cell phones. new cell phones barely make it through the day the first charge and after a week they can go alot longer.
