need HELP w/m9700!

Hey everybody, I just got my m9700 and everything is up and running except for one thing...whenever I boot (or reboot for that matter) as soon as Windows has completed loading I get a "system error 67" message which quickly changes to a "system error 53...network path not found". I called Alienware Tech Support, but was told that it was a "Windows" problem not a system malfunction. Has anyone had this problem or heard of the error code?

Thanks in advance.

Have you set up any networking? Here is a link to a microsoft support article (found by googling "System error 67"...

Hopefully someone who is network savy will be able to help you.

I haven't seen that. It could be something corrupt in windows...

Have you checked "network connections" to see if there are any warnings? It may be a driver issue also if your wireless, ethernet or modem is doing something funky and trying to connect...

Have you set up an internet connection yet? Maybe it's windows trying to activate online but it can't find the net or something...

I would try reloading the drivers off the driver disc for the gigalan, wireless card and modem also as it seems something is trying to connect...

If you've been on the net it could be an issue with spyware or viruses... Spyware can try to send information to an external server on it's own.

Did you get a respawn disc? If you did, and you haven't loaded a bunch of software, you might just try reloading windows with that.

Ok, so I'm not crazy then...my first inclination was to just reinstall Windows so I'm glad someone's with me on that! I checked my "network connections", and ran a "local drive" check all of which came back fine. The oddest part of the problem though is that...I got that error message right out of the box! I hadn't loaded any programs, hadn't configured my wireless connection, nothing! The very first time Windows loaded...BAM, error message. That's the only thing that keeps me hoping this is just some manufacturer overlook. Most likely, I'm gonna just try to "respawn" this beast! Wish me luck!
thanks again

The reinstall can solve a lot of problems...

I think Alienware does the run in and testing on these units, then quick loads a clean install of windows. I've seen many issues resolved simply by reinstalling either with the respawn or off the Windows cd.

Hopefully it will solve your issue too...

Well tried the respawn and still and still the same thing happened after that, so I got my more computer savvy friend to come over and see what he could find. He said he had to find what was tring to access this mystery file and used a program called hijack this view all that was going on so he said that the router had a link going to a file that did not exist used hijack this did scan and found files that had no file name and a 20 digit letters and numbers there were 2 of them and he deleted them both and now this box does not come up at all. But he still does not know what it was or if it was needed. And if I ever need to respawn I will have it come back because it seems to be on the disk. Hammerhead do you have any insight on this? Also I dont know if this is related or not but I have verizon dsl and my internet is running ultra slow and dropping downloads. We tested the speed and at some points it was running below dial up! We tried to download some internet security because we want to have the lappy protected before we try and surf the web but it will never let us finish the download. It got to 70% and then says that it cannot complete download because the connection with the server was reset or times out I cant remember. Sorry if I am rambling I pulled an all nighter on this, anyway we have it set up on a netgear router and it is a very good one so I am sure thats not the issue, and it shows our signal to be at full strength. Hammerhead I also wanted to ask you if you think I should upgrade to the 512 cards because right now I have the dual 256. Alienware said the would exchange them and I just pay the difference. Do you think its worth it? Thanks in advance to all and sorry for the bad grammer and any spelling mistakes, me so tired lol. Any help will be appreciated.

I have no idea what the files were mock23... It could have been leftover from the internal software at Alienware. If it's on the respawn disc, that's going to be a problem I suppose. If you ever send the unit back you can ask them to reburn the respawn for you...

I would do a clean install from the windows disk, add the drivers then burn my own image with imaging software. Does your buddy have anything like Norton Ghost that you can use to make an image?

As for the cards, I'm not sure it would be worth the upgrade. If AW says you can just pay the difference then it might be worth it. The cards are the same with the exception of the onboard memory. That memory only comes into play with current games at very high resolutions and settings, but with SLI it may not be all that important.

My benchmarks are similar to those with the 256 cards, so it's not about speed. I held out for the higher spec cards just to try to future proof the laptop a little bit more as I don't tend to upgrade laptops and I wanted the highest specs available when I purchased.

Maybe you can send it back, have them upgrade the cards and reinstall the OS and burn you another respawn disk while they're at it...
